HOSHIARPUR
Seminar:
A national-level seminar on Sufi studies will be organised at the PRTC, Jahan Khelan, near here on Wednesday. The seminar will be inaugurated by Mr Sarabjeet Singh, Director-General of Police, Punjab. The key note address shall be delivered by Prof Gopi Chand Narang, a renowned Professor of Sufi studies. A Sufi Mushaira shall be held in evening.

Lok Adalat: As many as 99 cases were taken up in the quarterly Lok Adalat, held in the sessions' court complex on Monday out of which 34 cases were disposed off. An amount of Rs 17,85,860 was settled in these cases.

Licence suspended: Mr Iqbal Singh, District Magistrate, has suspended the licence of the New Raj Theatre for 15 days under Section 8 of the Cinema Regulation Act 1952 for selling tickets in black and committing various other irregularities in the cinema hall. The Magistrate has instructed the owner of the theatre to remove all irregularities within the suspension period failing which time limit of suspension would be extended.

JALANDHAR
Meeting:
Members of the local Railway Pensioners Association held a meeting on Sunday under the presidentship of Mr V.P. Bawa. As many as 50 members attended the meeting.

Scholarship: Ameek Kaur Kohli of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, has won the Singapore International Airlines Scholarship, to study in Singapore. She has also won the KVPY scholarship of Government of India.

SAS NAGAR
Camp held:
An AIDS awareness camp for adolescents was organised by the Ranbaxy Community Healthcare Society on Monday at the Phase VI Government College near Mohali village. About 230 girls and boys attended the camp and were educated on AIDS by Dr S.P. Singh, MO of the RCHS, Patiala, and Dr Upma Sharma, MO of the RCHS, SAS Nagar. The college staff helped in organising the camp.

REWARI
Allocation:
The Haryana Government has made an allocation of Rs 1 crore for revamping of the sewerage system in the Bawala town of the district, according to Mr Jaswant Singh Bawal, Haryana Minister of State for Public Health. He said the old existing sewer lines in certain colonies would be revamped while new sewer lines would be laid in the remaining colonies of the town.

SIRSA
Drive:
The Sirsa police has launched a special campaign to check the increasing satta in this district. While giving this information SP Kameshver Kumar Mishra said here on Tuesday that the police arrested Puran Chand, Rajinder Singh and three other persons from various places of this district on Monday and seized Rs 6,433 from their possession.

SONEPAT
Procession:
Safai workers of the local municipal council took out a procession here on Tuesday to protest against the non-payment of their salaries for October and November. They marched through the main bazars of the city and reached the residence of the Chairperson at the Sikka Colony area where they held a demonstration and demanded immediate release of their two months’ salary. They also sat on a day's dharna outside the MC office.

Dharna: The Haryana Khet Mazdoor Union has decided to organise a day's dharna at all district and tehsil headquarters in the state to press for its demand for changing the pattern of identifying the families living below the poverty lines.Mr Daryao Singh Kashyap, general secretary of the state unit of the union, urged the state government to include the small farmers having three acres of land, and workers getting a salary of less than Rs 2,500 per month into the category of people living below the poverty line.

No electricity: Inhabitants of Garhi Ujale Khan village in Gohana subdivision of this district have been without electricity for the past five days after an electricity transformers in the village was burnt. Many residents alleged that the authorities of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam have utterly failed to replace the burnt transformer inspite of repeated representations.

Killed: Ishwar of Sitawali village was killed after he was hit by a train near the railway station here on Monday. According to the Railway police, the victim was crossing the railway track when the accident occurred.

YAMUNANAGAR
Education for each child:
The Haryana Government is determined to impart education in new millennium to each and every child of the state, said Mr Rajeev Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Yamuna Nagar, while addressing students of Springfields Public School at the school's annual function here on Monday. He said the state government had decided to appoint 12,000 teachers to ensure education at the doorstep.

KANGRA
Hep-B injections:
More than 1100 residents of this town were given subsidised hepatitis-B vaccination by the local Rotary Club at the Tondon club here on Sunday. Disclosing this here on Monday, Dr V.K. Mahajan, in charge for the programme, said that one person out of 20 was a silent hepatitis-B carrier. He said in the first phase 1100 residents were given vaccinations and next phase would be held on December 26.

Record room inaugurated: The HP Revenue Minister, Mr Vidya Sagar, on Sunday, inaugurated a revenue record room at the local Subdivisional Magistrate’s office. This record room would enable the people of this subdivision, including Harchakian and Baroh tehsils, to get their revenue records verified here only.

Eye camp: The National Society for Prevention of Blindness (NSPB), in collaboration with the District Blindness Control Society, organised a three-day eye camp at Takipor in this subdivision which concluded on Sunday. Dr V.K. Mahajan, district unit secretary, NSPB, said here on Monday that about 300 patients were examined and 23 operations were done. Food, transportation and medicines were given, free of cost to all, he added.

Quiz: An AIDS awareness quiz was held at the local DAV College here on Monday in which 60 boys and girls participated. The quiz was organised by the Health Department in collaboration with the Biological Society of the college.top
