9 militants killed in J & K
SRINAGAR, Dec 7 (TNS)— At least nine militants were killed and a policeman injured and four residential houses were gutted in separate incidents of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir since yesterday.A police spokesman said here that two foreign militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at Wattal Bagh near Ganderbal, about 25 km from here, today. One Special Organisation Group personnel was also injured in the encounter.

More pension for PF subscribers
NEW DELHI, Dec 7 (PTI) — Provident Fund subscribers across the country will get more pension once the government accepts the recommendation of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to increase the monthly pension by 4 per cent, official sources said. Once the proposal is approved, it will translate into a 5.5 per cent rise (on a 16.5 months valuation) for those drawing pension as on March 31, 1998, the sources said.

3 die in Naxal attack
HYDERABAD, Dec 7 (PTI) — Three persons, including two policemen, were killed in an exchange of fire even as sporadic incidents of Naxal attacks were reported from Warangal and Adilabad districts of Andhra Pradesh since last evening. Two constables and a jeep driver were killed in an exchange of fire with ultras at Yeturunagaram village last night when a five-member police party was returning after removing banners put up by PWG Naxals near Mangampeta junction, the police said today.

Undertrials escape
AJMER, Dec 7 (PTI) — Three handcuffed undertrials beat their four-member police escort, snatched rifles and escaped from a running train after pulling the chain, 15 km from here, the police said today. The undertrials were being brought from Nasirabad after appearance in a court to Ajmer where they were lodged. The undertrials were facing charges of snatching weapons from the Haryana Police and kidnapping a marble trader and incidents of looting.

7 killed in clash
MADHEPURA (Bihar), Dec 7 (UNI) — At least seven persons were killed today after a two-day pitched battle between rival criminal gangs at Dhuria Parbatta village in Madhepura district. The police said here today that the gangs fought in a bid to establish their supremacy.
