USA bombs Iraqi radar site
BERLIN, Aug 15 (Reuters) US planes enforcing a
no-fly zone over Iraq today bombed a radar site after
coming under anti-aircraft fire, the US Air Force's
European Command said. F-15 aircraft dropped laser-guided
bombs on the site south of Saddam Dam in northern Iraq in
self-defence after Iraq used its air defences between 10
a.m. and 1.30 p.m., the German-based command said in a

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (AFP) The Pakistani police today
said a small bomb exploded close to an Independence Day
ceremony addressed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here
yesterday. A suspect identified as Dunya Gul, who was
said to be a religious extremist, was arrested after the
"low intensity explosion", police official
Hussain Lasi told AFP. The 55-year-old hails from the
northwestern tribal town of Jamrud on the border with
Afghanistan, he said.
29 killed in
Algeria
ALGIERS, Aug 15 (AFP) Islamic extremists killed 29
persons overnight at Beni Ounif, in the Bechar region
some 750 km southwest of Algiers, Algerian security
officials said today. Three persons were injured in the
attack attributed to "a group of terrorists,"
the officials said. They gave no details of the
circumstances or the identities of the victims.
194 surrender
GUWAHATI, Aug 15 (UNI) At least 194 militants from
different insurgent groups today laid down their arms and
ammunition before the district authorities in many parts
of Assam, official sources said. Of them, 170 belonged to
the United Liberation Front of Asom, 23 the National
Democratic Front of Bodoland and one ultra was from the
Bodoland Liberation Tiger.
