Red alert in Bihar
GAYA, April 23 (PTI) The police has registered a
case against seven persons in connection with the killing
of 12 persons at Khagri Bigha and Jahir Bigha villages in
Gaya district on Wednesday, sources said. No arrests
have, however, been made. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister
has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1,20,000 each to the
family of the victims and a government job to one of the
family members. A red alert has been sounded.Shiites shot at
MULTAN, April 23 (AP) Gunmen opened fire on Shiite
Muslim worshippers in Pakistans religiously
troubled eastern Punjab province, injuring 14 persons,
including five children, the police said today. Two men
yesterday opened fire on Shiite Muslims, who were resting
after walking through Multan in a show of mourning for
the death of the grandson of Prophet Mohammed.
Nepal ex-PM
KATHMANDU, April 23 (UNI) Former Prime Minister
and President of the Communist Pasrty of Nepal (United
Marxists-Leninists) Manmohan Adhikary (79) continued to
sink with his condition "highly critical and
alarming". Doctors attending on him today said all
his body organs had stopped functioning, save the heart
and kidney with the latter also "almost 60
per cent incapacitated".
Ministry renamed
NEW DELHI, April 23 (UNI) -The government has
renamed the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment as
the Ministry of Urban Development with immediate effect.
The two departments in the reorganised ministry
department of Urban Development and Department of Urban
Employment and Poverty Alleviation have been
merged.
Fires at airport
NEW DELHI, April 23 (FOC) Minor fires were
reported in offices of Lufthansa Airlines and Jal
Airlines at Indira Gandhi International Airport this
afternoon. No casualty was reported. In another fire in a
printing press at Jagatpuri in East Delhi, Mohan Lal (37)
was killed and Bhagwan Singh (55) sustained burns.
