Ex-NLC chief chargesheeted
CHENNAI, April 19 (PTI) — The CBI today charge-sheeted suspended Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) chairman P.V. Bhupathi and nine others for allegedly creating false evidence to explain the assets held by him and his family members. The Tenth Metropolitan Magistrate R. Krishnamurthy took cognisance of the charge sheet and issued summons to the accused, asking them to appear in court on May 19.

France refuses
NEW YORK, April 19 (PTI) — An American proposal that NATO apply sea blockade to prevent oil flow to Yugoslavia was rejected by NATO because of the objection by France, a media report said today. Washington had made the request at a closed-door meeting last week and immediately ran into opposition from France, The New York Times reported.

T-90 deal
NEW DELHI, April 19 (PTI) — India has "in principle" decided to acquire Russian-made ‘T-90’ tanks and negotiations are on for "considerable" reduction in price, Defence Minister George Fernandes has said. The Cabinet Committee on security gave its approval on December 3 Mr Fernandes told former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who had been opposing the purchase of T-90s, in a recent letter.

12 killed in collision
FATEHPUR (UP), April 19 (PTI) — Twelve persons, including three women and an infant, were killed and an equal number injured when a jeep collided with a state roadways bus at Rewari village 20 km from here, today, the police said.

Chhota Shakeel aides
MUMBAI, April 19 (PTI) — Three alleged aides of underworld don Chhota Shakeel were arrested on charges of robbery in two separate incidents in the metropolis in the past two days. The police today said acting on a tip-off that Sharif Shaikh (24) and Sunil Yadav (22) would be arriving at Bandra in north-west Mumbai to steal cars, the police laid a trap and arrested the duo, yesterday. Wasim Shaikh (28) was arrested on charges of house-breaking.

Nawaz Sharif in Moscow
MOSCOW, April 19 (DPA) — Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived today in Moscow for talks, Itar-Tass news agency reported. During his three-day visit Mr Sharif is due to meet with Russian President Boris Yeltsin and Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov. In addition to planned discussion of greater economic cooperation between the two countries, observers expect Mr Sharif to meet with Russian top brass to discuss the military situation in Asia.
