JAMMU, Sept 12 State Congress leaders have different views on starting a dialogue with militants for resolving the Jammu and Kashmir issue. While one section of the Congress led by Mufti Mohammed Sayed, a former Union Home Minister, and his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the Legislature Congress party, have consistently favoured talks with separatists, including militants, the other faction headed by Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former union minister is opposed to any kind of dialogue. Mr Azad told reporters here today that there should be no talks with militants until they "surrendered". He said talks could be initiated once they pledged to join the national mainstream. However, Mahbooba Mufti has demanded talks with militants without any preconditions. She and her father are of the opinion that those who have used guns "are citizens" of Kashmir and through a dialogue they can be won over. They have advocated the need for discussing the issues with the militants. However, Mr Azad said that the Centre had held parleys with militants in the North-East only after they eschewed violence. "We cannot talk with those who keep on killing innocent people," he added. Mr Azad said the situation
in the valley had improved but in Doda, Poonch, Udhampur
and Rajouri it continued to be bad. He blamed the
National Conference Government and the BJP-led Government
at the Centre for their failure to resolve the issue. |
Mustard oil seized JAMMU, Sept 12 (PTI) Dhara oil valued at about Rs 11 lakh was seized from the premises of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd here yesterday, an official spokesman said today. Stocks of the mustard oil in different packings were recovered from the premises of the federation despite the Jammu and Kashmir government's ban on its sale following the outbreak of dropsy in Delhi and other parts of the country, the spokesman said. According to the Deputy
Controller, Drug and Food Control Organisation, who
headed the raiding party, five samples of the mustard oil
were also taken from the premises for tests and analysis. |
