Two suspended: Satish Kumar Sharma and Hira Lal, octroi clerks of the Municipal Council, have been suspended for helping traders in evading tax, official sources said on Saturday.

Urged: Mr Hari Singh Thakur, president of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Forum, has urged the Punjab Chief Minister to direct the Vigilance Department officials to complete the pending inquiries against corrupt officials, including senior bureaucrats

Song contest: The Bharat Vikas Parishad will organise a national group song competition at Sri Sukhmani International School at 10 a.m. Monday. Mr Swarna Ram, Punjab Education Minister, will be the chief guest.

Clerk arrested: The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Shri Ram, a clerk in the SDM's court at Nawanshahr, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 400. A case has been registered against him.

Hepatitis-B camp: The Rotary Club will organise a subsidised hepatitis-B vaccination camp at the local Khalsa Senior Secondary School on Sunday, according to Mr Harpreet Singh Rekhi, Secretary of the club.
Market committee: Mr Nagar Singh of Dhadak village has been nominated Chairman of the Market Committee by the Punjab Government.
Inaugurated: The Rotary Vocational Centre, a venture of the local Rotary Club, was inaugurated by Mrs Sushma Verma, MC, at Dashmesh Public High School on Thursday. Mr Ashok Sachdeva, project chairman, said training in tailoring and embroidery would be imparted to the needy girls of the area.

Elected: A meeting of the Guru Gobind Singh Sewak Jatha was held under the chairmanship of Mr Kartar Singh Garib. Jathedar Kartar Singh was unanimously elected President and Jathedar Avtar Singh Khalsa and Mr Harbhajan Singh were elected Vice-Presidents of the jatha.

Installed: The following have been installed office-bearers of the Lions Club Patiala (Central district 321-F): President — Mr D.P. Sharma; Secretary — Mr Amarjeet Arora; and Treasurer — Mr Sehgal.
NRI sabha: Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra, was unanimously elected President of the NRI Sabha, Patiala division, on Friday. Mr R.P. S. Pawar, Commissioner, said here that a meeting of nearly 50 NRIs took place at Red Cross Bhavan on Friday in which other office-bearers of the sabha were also elected.

Charas seized: The local CIA staff seized charas worth Rs 40,000 from Noor Mohammad, a resident of Kishanpura mohalla, on Friday. He was nabbed at a naka near Khotran Road.top

Murder: Ajay (20) of Sanjay Colony was stabbed to death by some miscreants and his body was thrown in the bushes in Sector 55 in Ballabgarh.

Financial help: The Deputy Commissioner of Jhajjar, Mr Arun Kumar, has announced a compensation of Rs 11,000 to the widow of L Nk Balwan Singh of Kheri Jat village, who laid down his life in the anti-terrorist operation in Kistwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 12.
Theft: Thieves broke into a shop at Civil Road here on Friday and reportedly took away four colour TVs and two VCRs, according to the owner of the shop.

Arrested: Satnarain of Ellenabad was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a minor girl three days ago in the town. A case has been registered against him under Section 376, IPC.
Body found: A decomposed unidentified body of a woman was recovered near the water tanks of the Public Health on Friday. The body was sent for a post-mortem.
Campaign: The police has launched a campaign to arrest proclaimed offenders of this district. As many as 46 offenders were arrested, Mr B.S. Sandhu, SP, said here on Saturday.

Procession: A large number of workers affiliated to CITU held a procession here on Friday in protest against the illegal lockout by Kiran Overseas Exports Limited at Rasoi village.
