Subsidy: The Punjab Government
has decided to grant a subsidy of Rs 200 crore on
the supply of phosphatic fertiliser to the
farmers under the Integrated Cereal Development
Programme during the forthcoming Rabi season, Dr
JPS Bedi, Joint Director, Agriculture, Punjab,
said while speaking at a district-level farmers'
training camp here on Thursday. FATEHGARH SAHIB
Murder: Jhanda Singh (55), a
sewadar of the Gurdwara Sixth Patsahi, was found
murdered in the gurdwara complex on Thursday. Mr
Paramraj Singh Dhaliwal, SSP, said he was
murdered with sharp-edged weapons. The Sirhind
police has registered a case under Section 302 of
the IPC.
HOSHIARPUR
Drive: The local police has
launched a drive against the anti-social
elements. As part of the campaign, the police has
registered as many as 36 cases against 46 persons
for possessing illicit liquor. Under the Gambling
Act, the police registered as many as 23 cases
against 73 persons and recovered Rs 14,3371 from
them.
Urged: Members of the District
Revenue Patwar Union held a meeting here on
Wednesday. The union urged the Punjab Government
to consider patwaris' work as technical work and
issue notification for providing basic pay scale
of Rs 5400.
SANGRUR
Blood donation: The local branch
of the Oriental Bank of Commerce and the Health
Education and Blood Donors society will organise
a blood donation camp in front of the bank on
Saturday. The Deputy Commissioner will be the
chief guest.
Liquor seized: The Excise
Department, Sunam, has arrested three persons at
Khanauri and seized 300 bottles of liquor from
them. A case has been registered against them.

Appointed: The Northern India Motion Pictures
Association has appointed Mr Bhupinder Singh
Malhotra as a member of the executive committee
for the year 1998-99.
Camp: The Gram Panchayat of Mundiani
organised an eye and dental check-up camp near
Mullanpur in memory of Baba Mit Singh. During the
camp Mr Inderjit Singh Zira, Minister of State
for Health, pledged to donate his eyes.
