Objectionable annexures dropped
NEW DELHI, Oct 22 — The three-day conference of Education Ministers, inaugurated by the Prime Minister, began today on a stormy note with walkouts by ministers of Opposition-ruled states, forcing the Human Resource Development Minister, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, to drop the controversial annexures of the agenda papers.

ISI may step up activities
NEW DELHI, Oct 22 — The Union Home Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, said today India would like to settle the issue of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan under the Simla Agreement. Mr Advani also said the government apprehended an increase in activities from across the border.

NEW DELHI, Oct 22 — Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will kick off the BJP’s campaign for the next month’s assembly elections in the Capital with a rally at Chhatrasal Stadium on October 24. Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP will meet here on October 31 to formalise seat adjustment and other related issues for the assembly elections.

BJP-INLD pact to split Jat vote
GURGAON, Oct 22 — The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Lok Dal are understood to have entered into a pact to weaken the Congress' prospects in the assembly elections in Rajasthan and Delhi, scheduled for next month.
