FAZILKA
Market committee:
Mr Sohan Lal and Mr Mohinder Singh Khalsa have been nominated Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the local Market Committee by the Punjab Government.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the district unit of the Punjab Chandigarh Patarkar Parishad: President — Mr Surinder Bhardwaj; Vice-President — Mr Dilbag Rai Sood; Secretary General — Mr Jasbir Singh Uppal; and General Sercetary — Mr Ashwani Kaura.

MOGA
One killed:
One person was killed when the truck in which he was travelling overturned on the Moga-Ludhiana road, according to a report received here on Monday.

PATHANKOT
Funeral:
Naib Risaldar Tilak Raj was killed in an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. He was serving with Rashtriya Rifles. His funeral was held on Tuesday with full military honours at his native village in Kangra district.

PHAGWARA
Planting machines:
As many as 500 cane planting machines fabricated with latest technique will be made available to farmers at subsidised rates, according to Mr Mewa Singh, Cane Commissioner, Punjab.

PHILLAUR
Ten arrested:
The local police has arrested as many as 10 persons on the charge of gambling in the town on Monday.
Adulteration:
The local police arrested eight persons for selling adulterated ‘khoya’. They were supplying ‘khoya’ to ‘halwais’ of Ludhiana Phillaur, Phagwara and Jalandhar.

HOSHIARPUR
Ex-servicemen cell:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Ex-servicemen Cell of the BJP unit, Jalandhar district: President — Col C.S. Chahal; Vice-Presidents — Col Mohan Lal, Col S.S. Toor and Col Narinder Singh; General Secretary — Maj S Lal; and Secretary — Capt Raj Kumar.

KAPURTHALA
Annual function:
The local Sainik School organised its 37th annual day on Saturday. The function was presided over by Mr Swarna Ram, State Education Minister. He announced a grant of Rs 31,000 for the school.
Lok adalat:
As many as 25 cases were settled in five lok adalats organised here on Saturday, according to the District and Sessions Judge, Mr V.B. Handa. Two permanent adalats have been set up here and hearings are held every Friday.

SAMRALA
Plea:
A meeting of the Samrala Tehsil Chowkidar Union was held here on Saturday. The union demanded the release of their salaries which had not been paid for the past four months.

Rally: The Punjab and UT Employees Joint Action Committee will stage a state-level rally in support of the employees' long-pending demands in the city on December 8. This was stated by Sajjan Singh, chairman of the committee, on Tuesday.
Meeting: A meeting on price rise and hurdles in controlling inflation was organised by the National Unity and Security Council at Navjivan Bhavan, Sector 8, on Sunday. Mr Satya Pal Jain, local MP, Justice J.V. Gupta, a former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Mr Param Jit Kumar, chairman of the council, were among those who spoke.
Fast: The indefinite chain fast of the action committee for the Development of Villages entered its 12th day on Tuesday. As many as 19 representatives from various villages are on fast.

HISAR
Triplets born:
Kusum, a resident of the local Anaj Mandi, has given birth to triplets at a private hospital. A hospital doctor said on Tuesday that the mother and the new-born girls were in good health.

SONEPAT
Science exhibition:
A district-level science exhibition was organised in Senior Secondary School of the Malviya Shikhsha Sadan here on Sunday. S.M. Hindu Senior Secondary School, won the first position, whereas, Tikka Ram Girls Senior Secondary School, and Government High School, Gopalpur village won the second and third position.
Song competition:
The Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a state-level group song competition on the campus of Hindu Vidyapeeth here on Sunday. As many as 716 students participated in the contest. Mr Ganeshi Lal, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, and Mr Kailash Chand Sharma, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Board, Haryana, were present on the occasion.

AMBALA
Railway employee killed:
A railway employee, Mr Vidhi Chand, was run over and killed by Punjab Mail near Ambala cantonment railway station on Monday night. The deceased was returning after repairing a signal.

BILASPUR
Lok adalat:
A lok adalat was organised at Ghumarwin on Saturday. As many as eight out of the 47 cases presented to the adalat were settled on the spot.

CHAMBA
Sanctioned:
The Himachal Pradesh Government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore under the Backward Area Sub-Plan for Chamba district, Mr Sanjay Murti, Deputy Commissioner, said here on Sunday. He said priority had been given to roads, education and forestry.
