BATHINDA

Condemned: The FCI Executive Staff Union on Saturday condemned the attack on the Inspector by farmers at the Tungawali purchase centre recently. Mr Gian Chand Bansal, Press Secretary of the union, said the union had urged the Senior Regional Manager of the FCI to stop procurement from the centre.

HOSHIARPUR

Arrested: The city police has raided two gambling dens in the city and arrested more than 12 persons and recovered Rs 68840 from them.

HISAR

Imprisonment: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr B.L. Singal, on Saturday awarded five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000 to Pratap Singh, a shopkeeper in Thandi Sarak area here, on the charge of abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl.
Convicted: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr B.S. Rawat, on Saturday convicted Balwan Singh and his mother, Tulsi, of Sansala village, and awarded seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each in case of dowry death.

ROHTAK

Elected: Mr Shamsher Singh, a teacher in the Department of Physical Education of the Maharshi Dayanand University, has been elected President of the MD University Teachers Association. Dr Shamsher Singh of the Law Department was elected Secretary.

SIRSA

Two arrested: Jasbir Kaur and Harbans Kaur of Bathinda were arrested by the Mandi Dabwali police under the NDPS Act and recovered 10 kg of poppy husk from their possession.
Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Haryana Government Teachers Sangh here: President — Mr Sher Singh; Senior Vice-Presidents - Mr Suraj Bhan, Ms Nirmala Rathi and Ms Bimla Yadav; Vice-President - Mr C.N. Dharna: Members of the Bahujan Samaj Party of this district held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Friday in protest against the alleged harassment of their members by the ruling politicians.

SONEPAT

Suspended: The Haryana Government has suspended Mr Fateh Singh, Naib Tehsildar, Ganaur. According to official sources, the suspension follows illegal transfer of panchayat land.
Shot dead: Mr Mohinder Singh, sarpanch, was allegedly shot dead at Ahulana village here on Saturday. The police has registered a case of murder.
Three arrested: The Gohana police raided a gambling den in the town on Saturday and arrested three persons. A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against them.
Couple held: With the arrest of Sukhbir and his wife, Neelam, the Rai police claims to have solved the alleged murder of Vinod (38) of Khewra village.

Contest results: The District Information and Public Relations Department organised a declamation contest on "Prohibition" at Talai on Saturday. Arti Sharma, Renuka and Rachana were declared first, second and third, respectively, among the Senior Secondary Schools. In the High Schools category Kuldeep Kumar, Rama Kant and Ranjna were declared first, second and third, respectively.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Bilaspur district unit of the Himachal Pradesh State Employees Confederation: Chief Adviser — Mr Lekh Ram Sharma; President — Mr Jagdish Kumar Bhardwaj; General Secretary — Mr Jaipal Sharma and Treasurer — Mr Ajmer Singh.

Dead: Naruttam Singh (44), ASI, died of cardiac arrest at the local police station on Saturday.

MANALI

Body found: An unidentified body of a foreigner was found at Jagatsukh village on Saturday. According to the police the body has been sent to the District Hospital, Kulu, for a post-mortem examination.

NURPUR

Urged: The Himachal Pradesh State Transport Corporation Employees Federation urged the Managing Director of the corporation to regularise the services of the daily- wage employees of the corporation who had completed 10 years of service.

SOLAN

Suspended: The Minister of State for Town and Country Planning on Friday directed the Divisional Manager, Himachal Road Transport Corporation, Bilaspur, to suspend Ramesh Kumar, a driver of the corporation, following a complaint lodged by villagers.top
