BARNALA

Seminar: Mr R P S Pawar, Commissioner, Patiala division, while addressing a seminar on the working of panchayats, said women sarpanches and panchayat members should work hard for the development of their respective villages. Nineteen women sarpanches and 59 women panches of this block participated.

BATHINDA

Demonstration: The Medical Practitioners Association, Punjab, held a demonstration here on Friday for then on-acceptance of its demands, which included granting recognition to doctors registered in other states.
Four killed: Four persons were killed on the spot and four other injured in a road accident near Kot Shamir village, on Thursday. The injured persons were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
Arrested: The city Kotwali police has booked Mai Ditta, Tony, Santosh, Rajesh Kumar and Prabha Rani for allegedly harassing Mitu Rani for dowry and threatening to kill her. A case under Sections 406, 498-A and 120-B has been registered.

FEROZEPORE

Urged: Mr Kumand Singh Brar, president of the Ferozepore cantonment unit of the Punjab Market Committee Karamchari Union, on Friday urged the authorities of the Punjab Mandi Board to pay bonus to employees before Diwali.

HOSHIARPUR

Loans: The district Rural Development Agency, Hoshiarpur, will provide loans worth Rs 180.36 lakh to 894 families of this district this year. Out of this, Rs 44.80 lakh will be given as subsidy. This was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioner while addressing a meeting of the agency here on Thursday.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Taxation Bar Association: president — Mr Y.M. Mohindra; Vice-President — Mr Taranjit Singh; Secretary — Mr Vinod K. Sethi; and Treasurer — Mr S.P. Rana.

JALANDHAR

Medical camp: The Vajra Corps of the Army will organise a medical camp for ex-servicemen at Hamirpur from October 12 to 14. Specialists in various disciplines such as medical, surgical, gynaecology and ophthalmology, in addition to a dental team, will attend to the patients.

KAPURTHALA

Kavi sammelan: An All-India Hasya Kavi Sammelan was organised by the Rail Coach Factory Women's Welfare Organisation at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Stadium, here on Wednesday. Renowned humorous poet Surinder Sharma regaled the audience. Mr V.P. Ojha, General Manager, Rail Coach Factory, honoured the poets.
Eye camp: The district blindness Control Society and the State Bank of Patiala have organised a free eye camp at Shiv Mandir here. Dr J.N. Datta, Eye Specialist, Civil Hospital, has performed as many as 24 operations. He said another camp would be held at the Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi, on October 12.
Demanded: Mr Sukhpal Singh Khera, Senior Vice-President, Punjab Youth Congress, has demanded a girdawari in respect of the damage caused to the paddy crop in the state by the recent rain. He demanded a compensation of Rs 5,000 per acre to the farmers whose crops had been damaged.
Bridge inaugurated: Dr Upinderjit Kaur, Technical Education Minister, on Thursday inaugurated a bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 81 lakh at Sultanpur Lodhi. She said five more bridges at a cost of Rs 20 crore would be constructed at Sultanpur Lodhi for which the Government had already given sanction.

Examination: The Children Welfare Trust of India will conduct a talent promotion examination on November 29 for awarding scholarships worth Rs 40,000. All students studying in Classes VII, VIII, IX and X are eligible to appear in the examination. The prospectus-cum-application forms are available at all branches of Bank of Punjab here and the last date for submission of forms is October 31.

PATHANKOT

Competition: A three-day cultural competition was organised recently by the Adarsh Kala Mandir Club at Government Senior Secondary School, Sujanpur, near Pathankot. Teams from all over Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh participated. Mr Sewa Singh Sekhawan, Minister of State for Public relations and Revenue, Punjab, inaugurated the function.

Coop society: Six directors of the Mani Majra Cooperative Marketing-cum-Processing Society were elected following voting by ballot. Those elected from the category of candidates from societies include Mr Bhupinder Singh Badheri, Mr Surinder Singh and Mr Teja Singh. They polled 13, 14 and 12 votes respectively.

Elected: Mr Paramjit Singh Walia, a retired Additional Sessions Judge has been unanimously elected president of the Residents Welfare Association, Phase IV. Toxins: The district administration has called upon the residents here to be cautious about animal fodder and to ensure that it did not contain any argemone seeds which could lead to argemone toxicity in the animals .

HISAR

Blockade: Villagers blocked the Hisar-Rajgarh road near Muklan village on Thursday in protest against the police failure to trace the whereabouts of Mr Bhagwan Dass of Muklan village, who was allegedly kidnapped on October 1. The blockade was lifted on the assurance of Mr Mehar Singh, DSP.

KAITHAL

Samadhan scheme: The Commissioner of Income Tax, Haryana, Mr R.S. Mathoda, asked the members of the District Taxation Bar to help the department in collection of revenues. He said they should have to guide their clients to take the benefit of the "Samadhan" scheme launched by the government.

REWARI

Killed: Raghuvinder 20, a student of Kishangarh village, was crushed to death by the Haryana Roadways bus near Bikaner village on Thursday.
Minorities' front: The Haryana BJP president has set up a minorities' front in the state. Mr B.N. Hoormal Khan of Nangla Kanpur village of Faridabad district has been nominated state president of the front.

SIRSA

Accident: Four persons travelling in a tractor trailer were killed following a collision with a truck near Anandgarh village on Wednesday. The truck driver, however, managed to escape, according to the police.top
