NCC camp: Nearly 280 NCC girl cadets from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh have been imparted training in shooting, home nursing, first aid and communication at the basic leadership camp organised in the cantonment here.

BATHINDA

Dasehra greetings: The State Food and Supply Minister, Mr Chiranji Lal Garg, went to different markets of the town on Thursday to greet people on Dasehra. He also heard the grievances of the people.

JALANDHAR

Heart check-up camp: The local Rotary Club will organise a heart check-up and medical camp on Sunday at Government Girls High School at Lohian Khas. Medicines, free of cost, will be distributed.

KHANNA

Urged: A deputation of the Food and Supply Inspectors Union met Mr Madan Mohal Mittal, Food and Supply Minister, in Sangrur and urged him to accept its demands like stopping wrong transfers, unnecessary interference by the Vigilance Department etc.

PATHANKOT

Accident: Davinder Singh (35) and Surinder (30) have been killed in an accident when their scooter collided with a tractor-trailer near Karoli village, 6 km from here.
Arrested: The Kandrori police has arrested one person for allegedly trying to rape the daughter of Mr Tulsi Ram. The girl was admitted to the Civil Hospital here on Thursday.

PATIALA

Function: The local Punjabi University Alumni Association will organise a function in the first week of January next year. The Dean, Academic Affairs, Dr B S Bhatia, said on Friday that membership was open to all such persons who had passed graduation or post graduation from the university or the colleges affiliated to it.
Gymkhana club: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Rajindra Gymkhana Club here: President — Mr Bhupal Singh; vice-president — Mr N M L Tandon; joint secretary — Mr Vinod Dhundia; and treasurer — Mr Vinod Sharma.

PHAGWARA

Gang busted: The Punjab police here has busted two gangs of thieves and recovered stolen goods worth over Rs 1 lakh. Four members of an inter-district gang of thieves were arrested by a Goraya police party and scooters, two television sets, two cycles, two stereo decks were recovered from them. Two PSEB employees were also arrested under Section 411 and 379, of the IPC, and recovered stolen government electricity material from them.

SANGRUR

Tree plantation: Mr P.M. Dass, DIG, Patiala Range, inaugurated a sapling plantation campaign at the police lines here on Saturday. He said he had also directed the police to be more responsive to the public.top

Stone laying: To mark the sixth foundation day of the state unit of the National Handicapped Welfare Council, the state Education Minister, Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, will lay the foundation stone of the National Rehabilitation and Research Institute for the disabled in Sector 12-A here on Sunday.
Agarsain jayanti: The local Aggarwal Sabha is celebrating the Agarsain jayanti at Aggarwal Bhavan in Sector 16 on Sunday.

AMBALA

Kidnapping: The eight-year-old daughter of Mr Gurmit Singh, a resident of Matheri Sekhan village in the district, was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday. The girl returned home on Friday. A case has been registered.

FATEHABAD

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the district unit of the Indian National Lok Dal: senior vice-president — Mr Atam Parkash Batra; vice-presidents — Mr Baldev Madan, Mr Sadhu Ram, Mr Prithvi Singh, Mr Ram Kumar Basod and Mrs Chanderesh Dhillion; general secretaries — Mr Joginder Singh Virk, Mr Raghubir Singh Dharsul, Dr Vinod Sharma, Mr Raj Narang and Mr Hoshiar Singh Nehla.
Held:
The police has arrested Joginder Singh of Lad Banzara village, a proclaimed offender who had been eluding the police for the past 10 years. According to the Superintendent of Police, he had been booked under the NDPS Act.

HISAR

Mishap: Balwan Singh (25) and Rammehar (28) were crushed to death by a vehicle on the Hansi-Tosham road, 30 km from here on Friday. They were returning to their village on a motor cycle from Hansi.

JIND

Devastation: A fierce dust storm followed by rain, which hit a part of the district on Friday caused widespread devastation in 30 villages of Narwana and Jind subdivisions.

One person was killed on the spot and two were injured when their car collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Jind-Rohtak road, near Galauli village on Friday.

PANIPAT

Power supply: Resentment prevails among shopkeepers of the local Rajputana Bazaar and Gur Mandi Bazaar over "erratic" power supply to the area.
Celebrations: A procession was held at the Model Town area of the city on the occasion of Dasehra by the RSS in which leaders of the party addressed the gathering at the Hero Ground here.
Suspended: Satish Kumar, sarpanch of Rare Kalan village has been suspended for the alleged misuse of money. This has been done on the order of Mr Anuraj Rastogi, Deputy Commissioner.

SONEPAT

Donation: The Delhi Chief Minister, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, has donated Rs 1 lakh to Chaudhary Om Parkash Charitable Trust of Rampur Kundal village of the district. The trust is constructing a library and a hospital.
Substandard ice: Resentment prevails among residents of the city against the sale of substandard ice by some ice factories as this could prove a health hazard.
Concern: The Sonepat Citizens Council on Friday expressed its concern over the increasing encroachments on Municipal and public lands in different parts of the city. It urged the district authorities to take effective steps to check the menace.
Appointment: The Haryana Government has appointed Mr Ram Pat Jangra as the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council.
Demonstration: Members of the Sarv Karamchari Mahasangh, Haryana, held a demonstration in front of the residence of Mr Ramesh Kaushik, State Labour and Employment Minister, at the Housing Board Colony here on Friday to protest against the failure of the HVP-BJP alliance government.

YAMUNANAGAR

College teachers' union: The Haryana College Teachers Union urged the Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Mr M.L. Ranga, to hold the election to the Court and Academic Council of the university. The university did not hold elections to these bodies on one pretext or other, according to the President of the union.top

NURPUR

Murder: Chuni Lal (55) of Jachhi village near here was murdered with sharp edged weapons on Thursday. A land dispute is said to be the cause of the crime. According to the police, Dalbir and Shamsher of the same village have been arrested in this connection. A case under Sections 302 and 34, of the IPC, has been registered.

SOLAN

Inauguration: The Health Minister, Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated the Shalaghat-Sauria link road at Maloth village in the Arki subdivision of the district on Friday.

UNA

Booked: The Gagret police arrested Raj Kumar of Bhadrakal village, 55 km from here, on Thursday for allegedly murdering his brother, Ashwini Kumar. A case under Section 302, IPC, has been registered. According to the Superintendent of Police, a land dispute is stated to be the cause of the crime.top
