Nominated: Ms Sandal Bedi has been nominated as general secretary of the District Congress Committee (women cell ). This decision was taken at a meeting held by the Congress committee. The meeting was attended by Mr Raghunandan Lal Bhatia, former Union Minister, Dr Raj Kumar, general secretary of PPCC and Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma, president of DCCI.

BATALA

Injured: Mr Anant Ram, 52, a local resident, was seriously injured on Wednesday when two miscreants allegedly entered his house and snatched cash after beating him. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The police has registered a case.

HOSHIARPUR

Eye camp: A free eye camp organised at Rattewal village, concluded on Thursday. The camp was organised to commemorate the death anniversary of Ch Balu Ram Ji. As many as 270 patients were examined and 42 operations performed by Dr Jai Singh, Senior Eye Specialist, Civil Hospital, Mohali, and his team.

Meeting: A farmers' meeting had been organised by the Benra branch of the State Bank of Patiala in which the Manager, Mr Parveen Sood, briefed the farmers on the latest loan schemes of the bank.

Blood donation day: The local Blood Donors Council organised a blood donation camp here at the BDC complex on Thursday. Nearly 51 persons donated blood. Civil Surgeon Surinder Kaur Kochar gave away prizes to the winners of a painting competition held on Wednesday.

Blood donation camp: The local Lions Club ( Bahadurgarh) organised a blood donation camp here at Sheel Charitable Hospital, Tripuri, in which 21 persons donated blood. This was stated by Mr D.S.Sabharwal, president of the club, here on Thursday.

Dharna: The Federation of Small Industries here threatened to stage a demonstration on October 12 to protest against the harassment of traders and businessmen by the Excise and Taxation Department.

GURGAON

Rape: The police has registered a case against Shaukat of Rawli village for allegedly raping a woman of the same village. The woman had gone to collect fodder when the incident happened.
Car taken away: Four youths allegedly forcibly took away an Ambassador car at gunpoint from Mr Baldev Raj, driver, near Bilaspur chowk on the national highway. A case has been registered under Section 392, IPC.
Association: Prof Ram Bilas Sharma, Education Minister of Haryana, said a Parent Teachers Association would be formed at the state level. He said he would preside over the meetings of the association.
1 killed: Shakuntla was killed and five labourers were injured when a tractor-trailor in which they were travelling collided with a truck on the Pataudi-Rewari road. The police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the truck driver.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Parent Teachers Association, Garhi Harsaru village: patron-in-chief —Ms Kairta Gupta; president — Mr S.B.L. Jain; vice-president — Mr Matadin Yadav; organising secretary — Mr Jai Bhagvan Sharma; and treasurer — Mr Umrang Kapoor.

JIND

Injured: More than 60 persons, including women and children, were injured, six of them seriously, when a shed erected in front of two shops at the subzi mandi in the city collapsed on the eve of Dasehra celebrations on Thursday. The seriously injured were rushed to the PGI hospital in Rohtak, while 13 admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The remaining were discharged after providing first aid.

Electrocuted: Pitamber, a resident of the local Govind Nagar, was electrocuted at his residence on Thursday. He died on the spot.

SONEPAT

Fast: Mr Yogi Shastri, President of the Haryana unit of the All-India Yuva Sangh announced here on Friday that he would go on an indefinite fast on October 5 to press for the acceptance of his demands.
Visit: Mr R.K. Garg, Superintending Engineer (WJC), Feeder G.C. Circle, visited Juan village in the district on Thursday to take stock of the situation arising from the overflowing of the West Juan Drain. He also assessed the losses suffered by farmers whose fields had been submerged.
Power thefts: The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Board has intensifed its campaign to detect power thefts in the local operation circle. Mr S.K. Handa, Superintending Engineer Board, told mediapersons here on Friday that the officials of the board had conducted surprise checks and imposed penalties of Rs 11.97 lakh on those found guilty. According to officials, FIRs were lodged against 145 consumers who had failed to pay their penalties.

YAMUNANAGAR

Mishap: Three members of a family were killed in an accident on Thursday when their car, in which a marriage party was coming, collided with a truck at Manka-Manki village.
Renew licences: Brick-kiln owners here have urged the government for the renewel of their licences, functioning within the municipal limits. Mr Ashwani Nanda, President of the District Brick-Kiln Owners Association, said on Friday that a deputation met Mr Ganeshi Lal, Food and Supplies Minister, Haryana, to review the parameters prescribed here for brick-kiln owners.

Representation: The Housing Board colony residents here have sent a representation to local MLA and the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda, and urged him to look into the neglect of basic facilities by the Himachal Pradesh Housing Board in the colony. They sought the provision of all facilities mentioned in the master plan.

CHAMBA

Byelections: The Himachal Vikas Congress (HVC) has urged the state unit of the BJP to allow the HVC candidate to contest the Baijnath assembly byelection scheduled for November 25. This was stated by Mr Shadi Lal Sharma, general secretary of the district unit of the HVC.
