GURDASPUR

Artificial limbs: As many as 160 handicapped persons were provided with artificial limbs free of cost at a camp jointly organised here on Sunday by the management of the Golden Public School and Satya Sai Seva Samiti. According to Mr Dina Nath Mahajan, State Coordinator of the Satya Sai Samiti, the camp was held to mark the celebrations of 73rd birth anniversary of Satya Sai Baba.

Violated: Mr Khushal Bahl, a former Congress minister, in a press note issued here on Sunday said that the SAD-BJP Government had blatantly violated the model code of conduct in the Adampur Assembly elections to be held on November 25. According to the press note the weaker sections and depot holders were being threatened and intimidated. Mr Bahl said that response to the elections meetings being held by Congress workers was impressive.

MC elections: Election in Ward No. 18 of the local Municipal Committee will be held on December 13. The vacancy was caused by the death of Mr Ram Saran.

SAMRALA

Association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Punjab Pensioners Kalyan Sangathan: President — Mr Prem Sagar Sharma; Vice-President — Mr Naginder Singh Kang; Secretary — Mr Joginder Singh Josh; and Treasurer — Mr Balbir Singh.

ABOHAR
Liquor seized: About 750 pouches of liquor smuggled from Rajasthan were seized during a raid conducted by Mr R.D Mittal, ETO at Gurunanak Nagri Malout on Sunday evening. The operation was supervised by Capt D.K. Singla, AETC, Muktsar. One person has been arrested in this connection.

HOSHIARPUR

Gang busted: The Hoshiarpur Police has unearthed a gang of poppy husk smugglers. The police has arrested six members of the gang and seized 40 bags of poppy husk worth more than Rs 1 lakh from them.

JALANDHAR
Criticised: Mr Rajat Mohindru, a former general-secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, criticised the statement of Mr Kamal Chowdhary , a BJP MP that the rise in the prices of the essential commodities during the BJP rule will have a negative effect on the party's electoral performance in the states where by-elections are being held this month. Mr Mohindru said here on Sunday that the statement had demoralised party workers.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab PWD (Public Health) SDE's Association: president — Mr Swatam Chaudhary; general-secretary — Mr Mangal Dev Singh Bhagat and vice-president — Mr Prem Chand.

KHANNA

Honoured: An eminent cardiologist, Dr T.S. Kaler, the I.G. of Police, Mr Chandar Shekhar, and a former Minister, Mr S.S. Dullo, Prof Darshan Singh and Mr Paramjit Singh were honoured on Sunday at the second annual function of the A.S. College Alumni Association here.

MALERKOTLA

Quiz: A science quiz was organised by the local DAV Senior Secondary School in memory of Meenakshi, a former student, on the school premises on Sunday. DAV School, Malerkotla, DAV Public School, Ludhiana, and DAV Public School, Nabha, got the first, second and third positions, respectively.
Dental camp: As many as 5200 patients and 4200 school children were examined at a dental camp organised in the local civil hospital from November 2 to 21. According to Dr Mohammad Sabir, SMO (Dental), 85 patients were given artificial dentures free of cost.
NSS volunteers: The volunteers of NSS (unit-I) of the local Government college led by the programme officer, Dr Mohammad Iqbal, visited the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, Mr A.A. Saddiqui, Director of the academy, and Additional DGP Punjab, addressed the volunteers.

MOGA

Paddy rotting: Although the government procurement agencies in the state have stopped the procurement of paddy, in many villages in this district paddy stocks of farmers are rotting for want of procurement. The president of the Moga District Farmers’ Association, Mr Hardev Singh, said here on Monday that under such circumstances farmers were being forced to burn their produce, which had become discoloured because of the recent heavy rains in the region.
Polio teams: The Department of Health, Punjab has set up 473 teams for polio eradication programme, in the district. The teams would start working from December 6 to January 17, next year, according to Civil Surgeon of Moga, Dr R.N Singla here on Monday.

PATIALA

Meeting: A meeting of the Brahmin Sabha was held at Mata Kali Mandir which was addressed by the president of the All-India Brahmin Sabha, Mr Ramesh Sharma. Mr Sharma while appealing for unity in the community, called for more cooperation between sabha units in other parts of the country.

FARIDABAD

Three arrested: The police arrested three persons on Sunday in connection with the murder of Durga Singh, a dairy owner in Parvatia Colony here on November 13. Hardei, wife of the deceased, was among those arrested.

Blood camp: Nearly 80 girl students of the local Government Post- Graduate College donated blood at a blood donation camp organised by the district Red Cross Society at college campus. Mr R.C. Powaria, Sub Divisional Magistrate inaugurated the camp.
Farm fair: Mr Mahabir Prasad, Governor of Haryana will inaugurate the Mewat Krishi Jagrati Fair at Nuh on December 7, according to Mr M.K Midha, Chief Executive Officer of the Mewat Development Agency, Nuh. He said that the experts of education, health, agriculture and animal husbandry will also educate farmers in this fair.

Murder bid: The police has registered a case under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) against eight persons in connection with a shoot- out incident in which two persons, including a businessman Mr Kishanlal Goyal were injured.
Seminar: A two-day national seminar on "Management of Export Marketing of High-Value Farm Products — present status, constraints and future strategies", will be held at Haryana Agricultural University here from November 27. According to Dr U.K. Pandey, organising secretary-cum-head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, participants from all over India will deliberate on the present status and constraints of agricultural exports. Prof L.J.B Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of HAU will preside over the inaugural function.
Dharna: Activists of the Save Earth Save Humanity Movement staged a dharna in front of the mini-secretariat and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Monday.

Cultural programme: The Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy organised a Punjabi cultural programme at the local Zila Parishad Hall on Saturday. Students of the local educational institutions participated in the programme. The local Punjabi Kalyan Sabha also organised a blood donation camp where 50 persons donated blood.

Marketing society: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Narnaul marketing Society: chairman — Mr Bhani Sahai Jangra and vice-chairman — Mr Bhoop Singh.

PANIPAT

Earmarked: The state government has earmarked Rs 3.45 lakh for distribution among 69 persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Rs 4000 for distribution among eight persons belonging to Vimukt Jatis for construction of houses during the current financial year in this district, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Rastogi.
Case registered: The district police has registered a case against an ASI, Ram Narayan, for allegedly misbehaving with and beating up a widow. According to the police, Mrs Angoori Devi had lodged a complaint against the ASI.
Stolen goods recovered: The city police recovered stolen clothes from a house in Ram Nagar and arrested two persons in this connection on Saturday. The clothes were alleged to have been stolen from a factory in the local industrial area.
Pulse polio: Arrangements have been made in the district to administer the first dose of polio vaccine, under the Pulse Polio Programme, to infants in the age group of 0-5 years on December 6. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Rastogi, said that as many as 406 medical posts would be set up in the district to administer polio drops.

ROHTAK

Jat Sabha: Mr Hukam Singh Pauria was elected president of the district Jat Sabha here on Sunday. The general house of the sabha authorised Mr Hukam Singh to nominate other office-bearers and executive committee of the sabha.

SONEPAT

Looted: Mr Purshotam Dass, a kiryana shopkeeper of Gohana and Mr Mahavir, an employee of the Gohana Market Committee, were reportedly looted by three armed persons near Thaska village in Gohana subdivision of this district on Sunday night.
Resentment: Resentment prevails among the sugarcane growers of this district against the fixation of a low support price of sugarcane by the state government. Representatives of various farmers' organisations urged the state government on Monday to enhance the support price of sugarcane.

BILASPUR

Declamation contest: The District Language Department, the Public Relations Department and the Education Department, jointly organised a declamation contest at Namhole, 23 km from here, on Saturday. The topic was "Language Integration Day" and the contest was held in connection with the National Integration Week. Competitors from 12 schools of the area participated in it. Miss Pushpanjali won the first prize and Ms Jamanadevi and Ms Ranjanadevi were declared second and third respectively.

MANDI

Blood donation camp: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised here in Seri Pavilion by the State Bank of India and Vallabh Mahavidyalaya jointly with the help of the blood bank and Red Cross Society. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Prabodh Saxena inaugurated the camp. Fortythree persons, who had donated blood more than five times, were honoured. Dr Hirdesh Sharma donated blood for the 45th time at the camp. top
