Visit: A high-powered committee on the welfare of Scheduled Caste and scheduled tribes will visit Amritsar on Monday. The committee will meet senior officials of Punjab and Sind Bank to ensure the implementation of welfare schemes for these sections, a bank press note stated.

BATHINDA

Eye donation: As many as 25 cadets of the NCC unit of the local Industrial Training Institute has pledged to donate their eyes during an eye donation seminar held jointly by the NCC and the District Blindness Control Society.

Charge: Mr Gurpal Singh Bhatti, PCS, took over as ADC(G) and Mr Devinder Pal Singh Walia as ADC (D) here on Thursday.

Flayed: The Punjab Government Pensioners Association has criticised the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government towards pensioners. The association demanded the immediate release of the DA instalment at 6 per cent from July 1, 1998.

GURDASPUR

Case registered: The district police registered a case against fertiliser dealer of Purana Shalla on Thursday for allegedly selling DAP fertilisers at a rate of Rs 450 per bag against a control price of Rs 415 per bag. A case has been registered on a complaint of Mr MS Chahal, Chief Agriculture Officer.

JALANDHAR

Urged: Mr Harpreet Inder Singh, President, Government School Lecturers Association, Punjab, has urged the government to implement its non-financial demands without further delay. He said the State Government had already accepted the demands at a meeting held on April 24.

LUDHIANA

Eye camp: A two day eye operation camp held at Srinanaksar Baba Nand Singh Ishar Singh Hospital, Nanaksar, concluded on Friday. As many as 300 patients were examined and 40 eye operations performed. Medicines and spectacles were provided free of cost to the patients.

MALERKOTLA

Installation ceremony: Mr Ravinder Parkash Goyal, district Governor, Lion District 321-F, lauded the role of lion Clubs in the service of mankind. He was speaking here on Saturday on the occasion of the installation ceremony of the local Lions Club. Mr Mohan Lal was installed President.

Medical camp: A medical check-up camp was organised by the Lions Club at Nangal Bhur village on Sunday. During the camp as many as 700 patients were examined and medicines distributed free of cost among them.

Homoeopathic dispensary: A free homoeopathic dispensary has been started by the Shri Ram Chahan Memorial Trust at AC Market, Tripuri town, here. The dispensary was inaugurated by Dr K.C. Batish, member council, Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Punjab, on Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Protest: Members of the local Hindustan Club held a protest march on Saturday against the rising prices of essential commodities. They submitted a memorandum to the local authorities.

SANGRUR

Gang busted: With the arrest of three persons, the district police claims to have busted a gang of car thieves, according to Mr Arpit Shukla, SP. The police has recovered two stolen cars from them. A case has been registered against them.top

BHIWANI

Killed: A couple died and their six-year-old son was injured in a road accident on the Loharu road here on Sunday. The child has been admitted in the Civil Hospital.

FATEHABAD

Seized: The police has arrested Raju and Jamana at Jakhal and seized 15 kg poppy husk from them. The police has registered a case under the NDPS Act.
Brahmin sabha: The following have been elected office-bearer of the Brahmin Sabha: President — Mr Tirath Ram Sharma; Senior Vice-President — Mr Jagdish Rai Sharma; Vice-Presidents — Mr R.K Kaushik; general-secretary — Harish Sharma and Mr Radhey Sham Sharma; and Cashier — Mr Hari Ram Sharma.

GURGAON

Two arrested: The police claims to have arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in chain snatching, according to Mr Khushi Ram Dahiya, SSP. He said the police had recovered one country made pistol and two cartridges from them. A case has been registered against them.
Eye camp: The local Arya Veer Eye Hospital, will organise a free eye operation camp at New Colony from November 13 to 20. The registration of patients will start on November 13 at 9 a.m., according to the President of the camp.

Farewell: A farewell function was hosted by faculty members of Guru Jambheshwar University in honour of Prof K K Aggarwal, Pro Vice-Chancellor. Mr Dharamveer, Vice-Chancellor, lauded the contribution of Professor Aggarwal in setting up the university.top

BILASPUR

Appointments: Major Shivram Sharma, president, Bilaspur district unit of the HVC, has appointed Mr Sharwan Kumar Sharma, Mr Laskariram Pathania, Subedar-Major Hari Chand Thakur and Subedar Pritam Singh Chandel as Vice-Presidents of the district unit.
Announced: The State Government will spend Rs 18 crore for providing drinking water in 1,150 villages in the state and 515 hand pumps will be installed during the current financial year, according to Mr Rikhi Ram Kondal, HP Cooperatives Minister.

NAHAN

Eye camp: An eye ckeck-up camp will be held on the Government Hospital, Daddhu, on Friday. During the camp medicines and operations will be performed free of cost, according to Mr Rakesh Kaushal, Deputy Commissioner.

KANGRA

Raids: The local administration has made raids in the town to check hoarding and black marketing. The SDM, Mr R.L. Rao, held a meeting with wholesale and retail dealers of essential commodities. He warned that action would be taken against the guilty.
Admitted: As many as six pilgrims were admitted in the local Subdivisional Hospital after drinking "poisonous" water from a tank of a local 'sarai'. Temple trustees said all of them were safe. The SDM visited the site but no case has been registered.
