4 Army jawans hurt in encounterJammu Kashmir map

JAMMU, Nov 5 (UNI) — At least four jawans were injured in an encounter between the army and militants in the Surankot area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir today.

Official sources said troops of the Rashtriya Rifles launched a search around Potha village, near Surankote after receiving information about the presence of militants.

A patrol noticed the militants in the South-West of the village and fired at them. In the encounter, which continued for more than three hours, the militants used long-range weapons and a rocket hit a barrack. Four jawans sustained injuries from flying splinters, the sources said.

Additional forces have been rushed to undertake combing and search operations in the area.

The militants, led by the foreign mercenaries, have not been traced so far, they added.
