Book released: A book on Punjabi poetry, 'Sur Sanket', written by Dr Manmohan Singh was released by Shiromani poet Ajaib Hundal here on Wednesday.

Eye donation: As many as 25 cadets of the NCC unit of the local Industrial Training Institute has pledged to donate their eyes during an eye donation seminar held jointly by the NCC and the District Blindness Control Society.

Charge: Mr Gurpal Singh Bhatti, PCS, took over as ADC(G) and Mr Devinder Pal Singh Walia as ADC (D) here on Thursday.

GURDASPUR

Case registered: The district police registered a case against fertiliser dealer of Purana Shalla on Thursday for allegedly selling DAP fertilisers at a rate of Rs 450 per bag against a control price of Rs 415 per bag. A case has been registered on a complaint of Mr MS Chahal, Chief Agriculture Officer.

Medical camp: A medical check-up camp was organised by the Lions Club at Nangal Bhur village on Sunday. During the camp as many as 700 patients were examined and medicines distributed free of cost among them.

Eye camp: Dr Sukhdip Singh Boparai and a team of doctors from Patiala Eye Hospital will hold a free eye operation camp at Praur village on Sunday. During the camp medicines and spectacles will be provided free of cost to patients by the Lions Club Patiala (Supreme).
Lok gayak manch: The following have been elected office-bearers of the district unit of the Lok Gayak Kala Manch: president — Mr Hoby Dhaliwal; vice-president — Mr Harjit Guddu; and general secretary — Mr Tejinder Chahal.
Blood donation camp: On the occasion of Bapu Subedar Kartar Singh Dhaliwal's second death anniversary a blood donation camp will be organised on Friday at Rakhra village. Lieut-Gen BKN Chhibber, Governor, and Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, president of the SGPC, will visit the camp.

Gang busted: With the arrest of three persons, the district police claims to have busted a gang of car thieves, according to Mr Arpit Shukla, SP. The police has recovered two stolen cars from them. A case has been registered against them.top

Lectures: Mr Arun Jaitley, a constitutional expert and former Additional Solicitor-General of India, will deliver two lectures on 50 Years of Indian Constitution, here this weekend. The lectures, being organised by the Panchnad Research Institute, will be held in the seminar hall of DAV College, Sector 10. The Punjab Finance Minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh, will preside on Saturday.top

BHIWANI

Water shortage: Villagers of Kakroli Hukmi have been facing a shortage of drinking water for the past two months due to non-replacement of a damaged transformer. The Haryana Vidyut Prasar Nigam has reportedly refused to replace the transformer till the pending bills are paid.

FARIDABAD

Suicide: Two persons, including a newly married woman, committed suicide on Tuesday. Saroj (22) committed suicide by consuming poison. In another incident Ram Nath (60) committed suicide by consuming poison. The police has registered the cases.

FATEHABAD

Seized: The police has arrested Raju and Jamana at Jakhal and seized 15 kg poppy husk from them. The police has registered a case under the NDPS Act.
Brahmin sabha: The following have been elected office-bearer of the Brahmin Sabha: President — Mr Tirath Ram Sharma; Senior Vice-President — Mr Jagdish Rai Sharma; Vice-Presidents — Mr R.K Kaushik; general-secretary — Harish Sharma and Mr Radhey Sham Sharma; and Cashier — Mr Hari Ram Sharma.

GURGAON

Two arrested: The police claims to have arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in chain snatching, according to Mr Khushi Ram Dahiya, SSP. He said the police had recovered one country made pistol and two cartridges from them. A case has been registered against them.
School upgraded: Prof Ram Bilas Sharma, Education Minister, Haryana, has inaugurated the school of Boihra Kalan, which has been upgraded from the high school to the higher secondary level. He announced a grant of Rs 21,000 to the school from his discretionary fund.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha at its meeting held in New Delhi: president — Prof Gyan Prakash Chopra; vice-president — Dr C Prakash; secretary — Mrs Sheetal Sharma; joint secretary — Mr H L Kapoor; and treasurer — Mr S C Nanda.

SONEPAT

Campaign: The police has intensified its campaign against proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers in the district. The SP, Mr K Selvraj, told mediapersons here on Wednesday that the police had arrested 12 proclaimed offenders and eight bail jumpers during the past one month.

Body found: The body of a newly born child was found in a garbage bin on Saharanpur Road, near Rana Market, on Tuesday. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
