injured COLOMBO, Nov 1 (PTI) Popular film actress of Bollywood Juhi Chawla was admitted to a hospital in the Maldives last night after she slipped while boarding a speed boat. Doctors attending Juhi said she had sprained her ankle after failing to board the speed boat after it rocked and strayed away from the quay. "It is only a sprain and nothing serious," a doctor told PTI over phone from Male. LTTE has choppers COLOMBO, Nov 1 (PTI) The discovery of two helicopters said to be belonging to the LTTE on a well-developed airfield near the north-eastern town of Mullaithivu has given credence to rumours that the rebel Tigers were acquiring air-fire capability. The Sunday Times, in its defence report said, "Footage taken by the airforces Israeli-made unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) clearly showed that the LTTE has now developed an airstrip adjoining the former military base at Mullaithivu." Diesel tank bursts MADURAI, Nov 1 (UNI) Six employees of a granite polishing factory were burnt, five of them seriously, when a diesel tank exploded at Sakkarappanaickanur near Vikramangalam, about 20 km from here today. The mishap occurred when the employees poured the diesel into the tank, connected to the compressor. The police arrested three employees, including the General Manager of the factory following the incident. Passengers looted BARAUNI, Nov 1 (PTI) A gang of armed men looted some passengers of the Amritsar-Howrah Mail between Mokammah and Pandarak railway stations of eastern railway yesterday, the police said today. The criminals, who had boarded the train at Mokammah, fired two rounds to scare the passengers, they said. No one was, however, injured in the firing. Bomb attack HYDERABAD, Nov 1 (PTI) Two persons were injured in a bomb attack by unidentified assailants near Rajampet town in the faction-ridden Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh today. The police said the assailants hurled crude bombs at a jeep injuring industrialist A.V. Subba Reddy and his friend. Long-standing faction rivalry is suspected to be the motive behind the attack. Traffic blocked MADURAI, Nov 1(PTI) Traffic was paralysed for several hours in areas surrounding Kamuthi and Muthukulathur villages in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu today as supporters of a caste forum protested, demanding the release of their leader, who was arrested a few days ago. The police said several buses were damaged by the protesters belonging to the Thevarkula Kootamaippu, who resorted to fasting , picketing and blocking the road. |
