Kar ready to cross over to NC?
From M.L. Kak Tribune News Service JAMMU, July 25 Will Mr Ghulam Rasool Kar, a former PCC President, join the National Conference along with a handful of his supporters in the state? This question is being debated in the Congress and the National Conference circles following reports that Mr Kar was waiting for the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, to return from London so that he could discuss the modalities and terms and conditions for his entry into the National conference. It is learnt that Mr Kar has already sounded his supporters in Baramulla and in Jammu, among whom are several former legislators, to make up their mind on joining the National Conference. According to these reports, an understanding between Mr Kar and Dr Farooq Abdullah had been reached in the first week of this month after which the Chief Minister agreed that the government will take over D.P. Dhar memorial hospital in north Kashmir and also announced to name one bridge in Sopore after Mr Kar. It was under this understanding that Mr Kar toed the National Conference line of greater autonomy and conversion of the Line of Actual Control into the international border. The statement had evoked a sharp reaction in AICC circles. This gave Mr Kar the required alibi to join the National Conference. Mr Kar would have joined the National Conference much earlier had Dr Abdullah made him a party nominee for the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. Mr Kar had not insisted as he hoped that he would be reappointed PCC President. Since Mr Kar is neither a member of the state legislature nor of the Lok Sabha his defection to the National Conference would not invite provisions of the anti-defection law. As such he is at liberty to cross over to the National Conference. Molvi Iftikhar |
Tale of valour Tribune News Service SRINAGAR, July 25 In spite of broken bone in the back, Capt Ravi Loganathan continues in the counter-insurgency operations with more "vigour and determination". "It takes one hour's fomentation to pull him out of bed every morning," he adds. But that has not deterred Captain Loganathan, from performing his duties and he continues to perform his duties like any other soldier along with him. Hailing from Bangalore, Captain Loganathan (26) was injured while driving a vehicle led by Company Commander, Mohit Vig in a landmine explosion near Jagarpora village, 4 km from Kupwara town, on June 4, 1997. Mohit Vig lost his life. "I received the whole push on my back resulting into the "permanent injury," said the Captain Ravi.
