ABOHAR
Murder
Sumitra, allegedly murdered her paramour with the help of her father and brother at Muradwala Bhomgarh village on Sunday. Police sources said Subhash Chander, a Junior Engineer posted at SYL Canal Project was attacked at 12.30 p.m. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where doctors referred him to Ludhiana. He died on way to Ludhiana. The police has registered a case under Sections 302, 148 and 149, IPC.


AMRITSAR
Dharna
Three aerodrome officers of the Rajasansi airport sat on a dharna at the gate of the airport building on Monday seeking more amenities for the air-passengers. The officers Mr Doria, Mr Sarcar and Mr Mann told pressmen that their aim was to make the passengers aware of the inadequate facilities at the airport.


FATEHGARH SAHIB
Memorandum
Residents of Akar, Akri, Bathali, Sehri, Sehra and Tehalpura villages have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding that their villages should not be included in Patiala district. The memorandum said as Fatehgarh Sahib was nearer to their villages they had easy access to administrative and legal services.

FAZILKA
Murdered
Mohinder Singh (35), a vendor was murdered allegedly by his three companions in railway colony on Sunday. According to an FIR lodged by his uncle Har Singh, the deceased had gone to the residence of his friend Roshan Lal in Railway Colony in the afternoon. The police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC.
Electrocuted
Babbu (19), a resident of Chand Mari village, was electrocuted while switching on a water motor in his fields on Sunday.


KAPURTHALA
Society
The Model Town Welfare Society here organised a function to celebrate vanamahotsava at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Park on Sunday. Mr Raghbir Singh Transport Minister presided over the function. He also planted a sapling.
Challans
A former Congress minister, Mr Jagtar Singh Multani, has alleged that treasury challans of the candidates who lost in the recent panchayat poll were not being signed by the Deputy Commissioner and the candidates had lost 2 days for filing election petitions.


LUDHIANA
Visit
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Goel, along with officers of the Municipal Corporation and the Health Department visited the low-lying areas and listened to the grievances of the people. Residents of Ashok Nagar complained about the poor drainage and demanded the supply of potable water. Mr Goel, directed the Municipal Officers to drain out the stagnant water and supply clean drinking water to the people and directed the Civil Surgeon to set up health centre in the area.

MANSA
Seized
The Budhlada police has seized 10 quintals of spurious desi ghee which was being sold in the market at Rs 140 per kg. SSP of Mansa said at a press conference on Monday that the police checked the jeep (No. DL 2 CE 3966) on a tip-off and found the ghee in the jeep. The police has registered a case against Sat Pal, Kapur Chand, Mukesh Kumar and Hoshiar Singh under Sections 420 and 273, IPC.

NAWANSHAHR
Fake doctor
The police has arrested Mr Nirmal Singh, a resident of Harnam Nagar, Ludhiana for fraudulently practising as a doctor here. The police has registered a case under Sections 419 and 420. According to the police, Mr Nirmal Singh had been practising in the name of Mr Surinder Mohan of Fazilka. A complaint against the fake doctor was lodged by Mr Rajinder Singh of Nawanshahr and Mr Lekh Raj.
Crushed
Tarandeep Kaur (10), a student of class IV was killed on the spot on Monday when a tractor ran over her at the Barnala road.

Mr Paramjit Singh Mirpur has been appointed secretary of the All-India Youth Akali Dal by Mr Amrik Singh Aliwar , MP and president of the dal. Senior citizens
The executive committee of the Senior Citizens Council, demanded on Sunday, the setting up of a national social welfare board for the 10 crore aged in the country. Mr T.D. Chawla, general secretary of the council said the meeting also demanded that citizens of 58 years and above should be eligible for various state benefits.

Arrested
The police has arrested Manjit Singh, Harvinder Singh and Tarlochan Singh on the charge of assaulting an SDO of the HSEB posted in the city on Sunday evening near Bal Bhavan. The board employees held a demonstration on Monday to protest against the incident and demanded adequate security.
Case registered
A case of murder had been registered after the body of Mr Hakam Singh was found near Ambli village on Sunday. The deceased is husband of Mrs Gurnamo Devi, sarpanch of Lakhnaur village.

FARIDABAD
Blockade
Kanwarias blocked traffic at the Bata crossing on the Delhi- Mathura National Highway for three hours on Monday, when one of them was beaten up by shopkeepers. The incident occurred when a kanwaria was injured by a scooterist and his friends bashed up the scooterist, who took shelter in a shop. Heated exchanges followed in which some kanwarias were beaten up by the shopkeepers.

FATEHABAD
Sammelan
A sammelan of panches and sarpanches was held here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion the SDM, Mr Fateh Singh Dagar, said panchayats should try to settle small disputes. He said the sarpanches and panches should try to win the confidence of people.

KAITHAL
Rotary club function
The installation function of the local Rotary Club concluded here on Sunday. Mr Ashwani Chaudhary and Mr Satish Bansal were installed as president and secretary, respectively. Mr Deepak Garr took over as vice-president and Mr Yash Ahuja as treasurer. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Mr Arun Sharma called upon the Rotarians to take keen interest in the implementations of various projects launched by the club. Blood donors were also honoured by the chief guest at this function.

Elected
Mr J.P. Joshi and Mr Ram Prakash Gharu have been elected president and secretary, respectively, of the District Central Government Pensioners Association, a press note of the association said here on Tuesday.

Dead
Mr Sheo Lal, a lambardar of this district died here on Sunday. He was 95. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.


SONEPAT
Probe sought
Power supply to Nangal Kalan village of this district remained off for the past 25 days because of damage to a transformer. The residents are planning to gherao the Kundli power sub-station and the office of the SDO, HSEB. They have also sent a memorandum to Mr Bansi Lal, urging him to order a probe into the public complaints and take action against the erring officials of the HSEB.
Protest
The rural committee of the Sonepat District Consumers Welfare Association on Sunday protested against the alleged black-marketing of the kerosene by the owners of fair prices shops in the villages and demanded a probe. The association also demanded transfer of the DFSC, who, it alleged, had failed to take any action against the erring depot-holders.
Recovered
The police has recovered stolen goods worth Rs 35 lakh. Superintendent of Police told mediapersons here on Sunday that seized goods included two cars, a motor cycle, a canter loaded with rice, a jeep, an electricity transformer and other electric equipments, cash and jewellery.
Theft
Cash and some other articles were reportedly stolen from a temple in Mahavir Colony here on Saturday night.

Janata darbar
Lack of publicity by various official agencies, particularly the Public Relations Department, had resulted in a poor response to the Janata Darbar, organised by the district administration, at Rai, about 15 km from here, on Saturday. Twenty six complaints were received at the darbar.

KANGRA
Suicide
Sat Pal (45), a resident of Kohar Hate village in Nurpur police station allegedly committed suicide on Monday by consuming poison. The district police chief, Mr K.C. Sadyal, said the deceased had suspected his wife of having illicit relations which led to his suicide. The police has arrested Kamlesh Kumari, wife of the deceased, and a case has been registered.
