Urged: The
Anti-Corruption Forum has urged the Punjab Chief
Minister to withdraw the portfolio of Labour from
Mr Balramji Dass Tandon as he had allegedly
failed to look after the problems of labour and
labour law practitioners. In a press release
issued here on Friday, Mr Hari Singh Thakur,
Chairman of the forum, suggested that the Labour
Department should be given to an independent
minister so that he could streamline the
department.
Eye camp: The local Janseva Medical and
Eye Relief Society organised a free eye check-up
camp on Friday at the Guru Nanak Pura Tapai
chowk. As many as 250 patients were examined and
provided with medicines free of cost.

Amount
collected: Faridkot district has collected Rs
16.54 crore till November 30 under different
small saving schemes against the target of Rs 12
crore during the current financial year, the
Deputy Commissioner said here on Friday.
HOSHIARPUR
Sentenced: Mr
R.M. Gupta, District Sessions Judge, has
convicted Manjit Singh of Husanpur Lalowal and
Sukhdev Singh of Pandori Nijran of murder and
sentenced them to life imprisonment and a fine of
Rs 2,000. He also award three years
imprisonment to Manjit Singh under the Arms Act
and fined him Rs 500.

Deputation: A
deputation of the Government Homoeopathic Medical
officers Association, Punjab, met the Anomalies
Committee constituted by the Punjab Government.
Dr Darshan Singh, General Secretary of the
association, said the difference in their scales
and allowances and those of PCMS doctors, and the
pay disparity among homoeopathic medical officers
were discussed.

bail: The state President of the Shiv Sena
Rashtrivathi, Mr Subash Talwar, was released on
bail on Thursday. A case under Sections 323, 34
and 389 of the IPC has been registered against
him.
Elected: Mrs Narinder Kohli of the BJP has
been elected Senior Vice-Chairman of the local
Municipal Council. She defeated her rival, Mr
Parshotam of the Congress, by four votes.

Urdu poet
dead: Pandit Badri Nath Kamil (88), an
Urdu poet, of Pathankot died here on Saturday. He
was a disciple of Raj Kavi Pandit Mela Ram
"Wafa".

Camp: As
many as 75 operations were performed at a Family
Welfare Sterilisation Camp organised by the
district health authorities at the Primary Health
Centre, Moonak, on Friday. Dr Puran Singh Jassi,
Director Health and Family Welfare, Punjab,
inaugurated the camp. Dr S.K. Khullar, Civil
Surgeon, presided.
