Religious magazine: Damdami Taksal (Jatha Bhindran-Mehta) has decided to launch a global religious magazine,"Khandedhar", on the Internet. Baba Thakur Singh, chief of the taksal, on Thursday inaugurated the office of the magazine at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj complex.
Vocational guidance: A conference-cum-exhibition on vocational guidance was organised by the local Employment Vocational Guidance Division, Sainik Welfare and Department of Placement, Guru Nanak Dev University. Dr Bikram Singh Ghuman, Dean, Students Welfare, presided over the concluding function on Thursday.

GURDASPUR

JEs' protest: As many as 300 junior engineers wore black badges in support of their demand for the second successive day on Friday. They are demanding grant of 40 litres of petrol per month as transport allowance, shift duty and risk allowances. The engineers had held a rally on Thursday and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner.
DC's order: Mr S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner, has directed house owners of this district to inform the nearest police stations about their tenants. The order will remain in force to February 1.

JALANDHAR

Recruitment rally: The Punjab Regimental Centre, Ramgarh cantonment, will organise a recruitment rally here at Katoch Stadium on Monday. For the posts of clerk (GD), candidates from all over the state are eligible. The candidate should be matric.
Bribe: The Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested Satnam Pal, a registry clerk, Phagwara tehsil, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 500. A case has been registered.

LUDHIANA

Caption contest: Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agriculture University, gave away the prizes to the winners of a caption contest of a photo exhibition here on Wednesday. The exhibition was organised by the Young Writers Association and Fine Arts Photography Club. Deep Kanwal Kaur, College of Basic Sciences, won the first prize while Sundarsh, College of Agriculture and S. Parminder Singh, College of Veterinary Science, got the second and the third prizes, respectively.
Murdered: Mr Mohinder Singh Bedi (57), manager of a petrol station on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway, was killed on Thursday. The incident occurred when he was going home on a scooter. The assailants took away Rs 70,000 from him. Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Punjab Congress leader, at whose petrol station Mr Bedi was employed, has strongly condemned the murder. A case has been registered.

MOGA

Link roads: Construction of all link roads connecting villages of this district has been completed within two months. Stating this here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Kang said the government did not deploy any labour for the purpose as panchayats of the respective villages volunteered to help.

AMBALA

BHIWANI

Cleanliness drive: The district administration will launch a cleanliness drive in the town which has been divided in four sectors for this purpose. Stating this at a meeting here, Deputy Commissioner K.S.Yadav asked the departments concerned and municipal councillors to ensure the removal of garbage.

FAZILKA

Killed: Kaushalya Devi (64) died on the spot when the rickshaw in which she was travelling was hit by a Punjab Roadways bus on Thursday. The driver has been arrested and the bus impounded.

GURGAON

INLD meeting: A meeting of the backward cell of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will be held at Rohtak on December 19, according to Mr Anil Kohli, spokesman of the local unit of the party.
Sarvjati morcha: The first public meeting of the Haryana Sarvjati Morcha will be held at Old Government College in Hisar on Sunday. According to Mr Ashwani Chopra, convener of the morcha, Mr O.P. Jindal, President of the morcha and former MP, and Mr Arvind Sharma, Vice-President and former MP, among others, would address the meeting.
Recovered: The police has arrested Rajesh, alias Kaloo, of Delhi and recovered a countrymade pistol and four motor cycles from his possession. A case has been registered.
Complaints settled: As many as 110 complaints of various departments were received in an open darbar held at the local John Hall. Most of the complaints were settled on the spot and the remaining were sent to the departments concerned. The Deputy Commissioner presided.
Dharna: Employees of the Minor Irrigation Tubewell Corporation have been staging a dharna at the local divisional office since Tuesday, according to a press note issued by the Haryana MITC Union. The employees are demanding the release of TA/DA and arrears.

PANIPAT

Open darbar: A block-level open darbar was held at Bapoli village, 16 km from here, on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anurag Rastogi. As many as 65 complaints were received.

SONEPAT

5 held: The Ganaur police has arrested three persons of Kailana village in connection with the alleged murder of Roop Chand (80) on December 4. The SP said on Friday that the accused have been identified as Deepa, brother of the deceased, Sukhbir, and Basti Ram. Meanwhile, Howa Singh and Ranbir Singh of Mahmoodpur Majra village have been arrested for stealing six bags of paddy.
Mass resignation: All office-bearers of the Sarvjatiya Vikas Manch, a social organisation, resigned on Friday. Mr Surinder Sharma, president said he would nominate new office-bearers soon.

KANGRA

Power bills: Residents are sore at the irregular meter reading and billing by the HPSEB. They alleged that no meter reading had been carried out for the past five months.

KULU

Gang busted: The police has claimed to have busted a gang of thieves, following the arrest of four persons, including a woman, from a house near Dhalpur. Goods worth lakh of rupees were recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Vikram Kumar and his wife Neelu, residents of Jammu, Parvesh Kumar of Kangra and Ashwani Kumar of Hoshiarpur. A case has been registered.
Gutted: A house was burnt to ashes in a fire at Shanag village on the Manali-Rohtang road, 60 km from Manali, on Thursday. The casue of the fire is not known.

SUNDERNAGAR

Collision: Bansi Ram (40) and his son Sanjeev (17) died when a three-wheeler in which they were travelling collided with a truck near the Ghangal acquaduct, 2 km from here, on Wednesday. The driver of the three-wheeler has been arrested and a case registered against him.top
