GURDASPUR
Blood Donation: A Gorkha unit located somewhere in the border area of Dera Baba Nanak organised a blood donation camp in memory of Gurbachan Singh Salaria, PVC, to mark his 38th death anniversary. As many as 100 units of blood were collected on the occasion.
Suicide: Constable Manjinder Singh, a personal bodyguard of Akali MLA, Kartar Singh Pahra, committed suicide on Wednesday by shooting himself. The cause of the suicide is not known.

JALANDHAR
Elected: Dr M.K. Jha, Head, Department of Chemical and Bio-Engineering, Dr B.R Ambedkar Regional Engineering College, here has been elected to the Executive Council of the Indian Society for Technical Education.

KAPURTHALA
Encroachment drive:
The district administration has launched a drive in the town to remove encroachment from public places.
Rally:
The Health Department on Wednesday organised a chetna rally in cooperation with school children in the town in connection with the pulse polio programme. Dr S K Rewari, Civil Surgeon, and Dr H S Batra addressed the rally.

LUDHIANA
Self-employment project:
Mr Arun Goel, Deputy Commissioner, in a press note said during the current financial year 1,000 unemployed youth would be given loans amounting to Rs 10 crore through banks with 15 per cent subsidy under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojna. The applications are available in the office of the General Manager, Industry.
Seminar: The Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation will organise a seminar on the proposed mega industrial complex on the Kohara-Machhiwara road on December 7.

SAMRALA
School buildings: A sum of Rs 10 lakh will be spent on the repair of buildings of primary schools in Machhiwara block, Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, said here on Thursday.
Students association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Students Association of the local ITI: President — Mr Lakhwinder Singh; Vice-President — Mr Sandeep Singh and Finance Secretary — Mr Tejvir Singh.

TARN TARAN
Eye camp: A free four-day eye camp which was organised at Naushehra Pannuan by the Health Department with the help of Mr Hardyal Singh, an NRI, concluded on Thursday. As many as 1,300 patients were examined out of whom 105 were operated upon.

Legal assistance:
The Punjab Legal Services Authority will extend legal assistance to poor and needy in settling their claims and petitions before the Railway Claims Tribunal regarding the recent railway accident near Khanna. Such claims will be filed before the tribunal here and the member secretary of the authority can be approached anytime on working days.
Students' union:
The following have been declared as office-bearers of the Panjab University Students' Union: senior vice president — Lakhjeet Singh; chief coordinator — Ashok Kumar; convener — Paramjit Singh; and organising secretary — Mohan Singh.
Integral education: A programme on integral education was organised at the Sector 27 School of Integral Education here on Friday. The UT Finance Secretary, Mr G. Vijralingam was the chief guest.

AMBALA
Annual day:
The annual day function of Kharga Nursery School in the cantonment was held here on Thursday. Lt Gen G.S. Sihota, GOC, 2 Corps, was the chief guest. A cultural programme was presented by students on the occasion.

FATEHABAD
Six arrested:
The district police has arrested six persons and seized 31 kg of opium from them, according to the SP, Mr Rajbir Deswal.
Pulse polio drive:
The administration has set up 20 posts in this town for giving polio drops to children below the age of five on December 6, under the pulse polio drive, according to the Senior Medical Officer, Dr R S Dalal.

GURGAON
Inaugurated:
The Commissioner, Gurgaon division, inaugurated the farmers' training centre at Pinangwa village on Thursday. The centre was set up by the Mewat Development Agency, Gurgaon. The Commissioner advised the farmers to adopt commercial farming.
Constable killed:
Rajpal, Head Constable, has been killed in a road accident near Sector 12, here. The police has registered a case.
Local bus service: The Haryana Roadways have introduced a local bus service in the town from December 6, Mr Rajender Parshad Gupta, General Manager of the roadways, Gurgaon, said. He said the bus service would operate from Udyog Vihar to railway station. The buses will run from 7 a.m to 7 p.m daily.

HISAR
Two killed: Two persons were killed and one was injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Moda village on the Hisar-Sirsa road on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Shish Pal and Mahabir.

KURUKSHETRA
Book released:
The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Dr M L Ranga, released a Punjabi book "Pehla Khat Aakhri" written by Baljeet Singh, Assistant Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, here on Tuesday. The Commissioner of Linguistic Minorities, Government of India, Dr H S Deol, eminent litterateur, Prof N S Kapoor and Prof Kripal Singh were present.

NARNAUL
Rally: The Class IV Government Servants Union, Narnaul, has decided to hold a rally on December 13 instead of December 6, Mr Ram Bilas Saini, Secretary of the union, said here on Thursday.
DAP shortage: Farmers of Mahendragarh district are facing an acute shortage of DAP which is required for sowing of the rabi crop. However, official sources denied any shortage of fertiliser.
PATIALA
Function: A colourful cultural function was held on Thursday in Public College, Samana. Prof Nirmal Singh "Neer", a noted folk-singer of Punjab, delighted the audience with his songs.

SIRSA
One arrested:
Lachman Singh of Biruwala Gudha village in this district was arrested on Wednesday and huge quantities of stolen goods were recovered from him, according to Mr B S Sandhu, SSP.

CHAMBA
Convicted:
Mr B.S Chauhan, Sessions Judge, on Tuesday convicted Amar Singh, of Sunela Pani village for an offence under Section 302, IPC, and sentenced him life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.

DHARAMSALA
Man killed:
A 50-year-old man, Amar Singh, was killed, when he was hit by a truck near Mataur village here on Friday. Amar Singh, who belongs to the adjoining village of Kholi, was working in somebody's field, when he was hit by the truck. He was taken to a Kangra hospital in a serious condition, where he expired. A case has been registered.

MANALI
Body found: The body of Rukam Bahadur was found near Gompa Temple here on Wednesday. He was working in the local Nagar Panchayat. The cause of the death is not known.

SHIMLA
Urged: The Himachal Pradesh Block Development Officers Association has protested against the Government's decision to abolish the post of project officer in the District Rural Development Agency. A deputation of the association met Dr Ram Lal Markanda, Minister for Rural Development, and urged him to redesignate Project Directors as Deputy Directors, Development, and fill the vacancies through promotion from among the BDOs.
Fire: One person was killed when a fire broke out in the stall of a coal company at Kaithu on Thursday. The fire was, however, brought under control after fire-engines fought the flames for more than an hour.

SOLAN
Seminar: The Department of Art, Language and Culture, Himachal Pradesh, celebrated noted Hindi litterateur Yash Pal's birth anniversary by organising a seminar here on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Bal Ram Sharma, inaugurated the seminar. He said Yash Pal was a frontline freedom fighter. Mr Jagdish Sharma, Joint Director, Department of Art, Language and Culture, was also present on the occasion.
