GARHSHANKAR
One arrested: Trimbak Kumar was arrested by the local police on a charge of abusing the Executive Magistrate (Tehsildar), when he along with his staff was on a visit to the market to check encroachments on Saturday.
One killed: Mandeep Singh was killed and two others were injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a truck. The occupants of the jeep were contractors of the Mahilpur octroi post and were chasing a truck.
Annual function: Mr Kamal Chaudhry, MP, gave away prizes to students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Railway Mandi on Sunday. He called upon the students to come forward and fight against corruption in society.

NAWANSHAHR
Dental care: The concluding-day function of the dental care fortnight held at Civil Hospital here was presided over by Dr Surinder Kaur Kochar, Civil Surgeon, on Friday. During the fortnight, as many as 2,973 patients and 4,335 schoolchildren were examined and 108 dentures were provided to needy patients.
Urged: Dr Sukhdev Saini and Dr Kulwant Kalsi, President and General Secretary, respectively, of the district unit of the Plant Doctors Services Association, have urged the State Government to fill the vacant posts of agriculture development officers.

PATIALA
Condemned: The All-India Development Officers Association of the United India Insurance Company has condemned the decision of the Central Government to privatise the insurance industry. According to Mr Ravinder Singh Bhatti, a spokesman of the association, if the decision was not withdrawn a country-wide agitation would be launched by development officers.
Coaching: The IAS and Allied Services Training Centre at Punjabi University starts five month coaching course for IAS (prelim) on December 17. Dr G.S. Bajwa, Director of the centre, says the minimum qualification for this course is graduation with 50 per cent marks and the prospectus will be available in the office of the centre.
Meeting: The Malwa Gramin Bank (Shambu branch) organised a farmers' meet on various bank schemes. During the meet, farmers were apprised of loan schemes in which villagers from Mardanpur and Gaghar Sarai participated. Mr Dalip Singh Kharbanda, Chairman of the bank, addressed the farmers.

GURDASPUR
Two killed:
Rani (27) and her 4-year-old daughter, Pooja, residents of Bhaini Banger, were run over by a mini bus near Kot Khan Mohammad under the Kahnuwan police station on Monday. The police has impounded the bus.

Protest: Employees of the Census Operations, Haryana, did not accept pay on Monday in protest against the non-revision of their pay scales.
Hailed: Mr Kamaljit Panchhi, a Congress leader, on Monday hailed the victory of the Congress in MP, Rajasthan and Delhi. Mr Panchhi added that this only showed that the BJP had lost its popularity in the past eight months.
Sant sammelan: A three-day sant sammelan is being organised at Shri Baba Balak Nath Temple, Sector-29A, a press note said here on Monday.

PANCHKULA
Library shifted: The district library which had been functioning from Community Centre in Sector 7 has been shifted to Mini-Secretariat in Sector 1 here. The library which was recently inaugurated has a collection of 6000 books on different subjects. A spokesman of the administration said the membership of the library was open to all.

HISAR
Robbed: Three unidentified miscreants robbed Tulsi Ram of Rs 97,000 at Hansi on Sunday. According to a report, he was returning to his house when the miscreants snatched his suitcase. The Hansi police has registered a case.

SIRSA
Sanctioned: The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi, has sanctioned Rs 217.60 lakh for the construction of a building and 11 houses for the Kendriya Vidyalaya (II). Dr Avtar Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the vidyalaya said the first instalment of Rs 20 lakh for the construction had been released.
Reward announced: The Ellenabad police has announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for providing information regarding the murder of a Nepali youth eight months back. His body had been recovered from near the Memeran road of the town.

SUNDERNAGAR
12 sheep killed: Twelve sheep were killed and seven injured when these were run over by a truck on National Highway 21 on Monday. The police has registered a case under Section 279 and 427 of the IPC.
