Sudeep: Striking the right chord"I’ll bring ghazals back into limelight"
By Dharam Pal

TIME shall pass judgement on the talented ghazal singer, Sudeep. You have heard Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Mehdi Hasan etc. Now tune in to Woh Jaam Pila, courtesy Magnasound, to know more about Sudeep, a genuine ghazal singer.

In the world of ghazals, Sudeep has made a place for himself, as a dedicated singer. When Zee TV was looking for a younger singer to share the platform with top-notch ghazal singers such as Pankaj Udhas, Munni Begum, Mehdi Hasan and Ghulam Ali for its popular ghazal series Ras Barse, they selected the young and talented Sudeep.

Talking about his life and future plans, Sudeep says, "I took to music at an early age. My training in classical music under Shanti Hiranand cemented my passionate relationship with ghazals. I wish to restore the ghazal to the domain of musical art. That is why I have used lyricists Shaam Allahabadi, Bashir Badr, Mool Chand Bairagi, Shyam Banerji and Veer Kumar Adheer to pen the lyrics for my album Woh Jaam Pila.

"My first album was with Magnasound in which people noticed my talent. The ghazals in my album will capture the very essence of the feelings of being in love and being loved.

"I have tried to do justice to all my ghazals with my singing. I, however, could not have gone far without top music director Jawahar Wattal, who has collaborated to compose the album with me." Woh Jaam Pila, an album of ghazals, is all about life, love and hope.

"I was always in love with ghazals, and in India there is a very strong tradition as far as ghazals are concerned. Urdu poetry is more than 500 years old, and I am proud to be associated with such history.

"People are likely to come back to ghazals after they get bored with pop music. In fact many people prefer listening to only ghazals. I plan to create more music and bring ghazals back into the limelight."

Mother Teresa

My heart was filled with agony and pain,

When I learnt that Mother breathed her last.

She loved the people in stress and strain,

Her heart was holy, great and vast.

She was the mother of thousands of souls,

Who were in agony, trouble and despair.

Looked down upon and deserted by all,

Mother loved them and took every care.

When life was sunshine and days were bright,

Joys were great and the temptation strong.

She thought of dying souls, took wings of flight,

Walked on the way that looked harsh and long.

When all failed, only one was there,

To share the love and be near.

Mother came to soothe the aching heart,

Brought bliss and love to impart.

God, bless the work of Mother,

Which was full of love and pity.

Help us to love one another,

And to live in perfect unity.

Alone

Where do you sit alone,

Like a hidden casper in a cone?

Why don't you enjoy the talks,

Enjoyed by your fellow folks?

Are they not sensible,

Or are they out of your principle?

Don't you have the courage,

Or are they out of your knowledge?

Where do you sit alone,

Like a hidden casper in a cone?

Don't you reflect an image of fun,

Or do you simply take it as a foolish pun?

Don't you miss the company of laughter,

Or do you think it to be an amazing bluster?

Don't you want to be one among them,

Or do you just want to stand alone?

Where do you sit alone,

Like a hidden casper in a cone?
