Appointed
Capt Amarinder Singh, PPCC president, has appointed Mr Makhan Lal Lalka of Fatehgarh Sahib as chairman of the Bazigar cell of the PPCC. According to a press note issued here on Wednesday, Mr Lalka will be a member of the PPCC executive by virtue of being the chairman of the cell and will also attend meetings of the office-bearers of the PPCC.

Traders’ stir
The Punjab Beopar Mandal (Kapoor group) has decided to launch state-wide stir after August 15 to protest against the failure of state government to accede to the long-pending demands of traders. The demands include abolition of octroi and curtailing of the powers of the Sales and Excise Directorate.

FEROZEPORE

Camp
The Baghdadi gate branch of Punjab National Bank here organised a free medical camp at the leprosy colony on Wednesday. The regional manager of the bank, Mr T.R. Anand, inaugurated the camp at which medicines were distributed free of cost.

Medical check-up
The Dedicated Brothers Group organised a medical examination camp in collaboration with the State Bank of Patiala at Jandali village. At least 700 patients were examined and medicines were distributed free of cost. Dr Rakesh Vermi, founder president of the group, presided.

Rally: Janata Dal activists led by the district JD president, Mr Sarwan Singh Bholi, held a rally on Wednesday against anti-people policies of the Punjab Government particularly against hike in bus-fare, power tariff and prices of commodities. Objection
President of the All-India Hindu Maha Sangh, Swami Krishnanand, has objected to the opening of a liquor shop in front of Durga Temple located on the Ambala-Shimla national highway here. In a representation he has requested the Chief Minister to issue directions to the district administration and the Excise and Taxation Department to get the shop shifted elsewhere.

Fans donated
The local Upkar Society on Thursday donated fans to Government Higher Secondary Schools in Sectors 17 and 19, and matresses and bedsheets to Saket Hospital. Ms Sharda Nayyar, general secretary of the society, said a dental camp was also organised at Government School, Sector 7.top

HISAR

Sammelan
The Haryana PCC will organise a regional sammelan of the scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes here at Sushila Bhawan on August 16, according to Mr Shiv Dayal Pihwal, general secretary of the SC-ST cell of the party on Thursday. He said Mr Bhupender Singh Hooda, MP and president of the HPCC will be the chief guest while Ms Selja, secretary, AICC, will preside over the sammelan.

KAITHAL

Seized
The police seized 72 kg of poppy husk from the tubewell of Gurcharan Singh of Utana village on Tuesday. The accused has been arrested and a case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him.
Eve-teasing
Kapil, alias Kala, of Pega village and Satish Kumar, a local resident, were arrested on Tuesday evening for eve-teasing.
Apprehended
A girl belonging to Peoda village, who was lured away by some youths of the same village a few days ago, was apprehended by the police here on Tuesday, near the railway crossing on the Jind road. The girl was medically examined. A case under Sections 376, 363 and 366 of the IPC has been registered against the youths.

Janata darbar
Only 12 persons turned up to air their grievances at the janata darbar held by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr P.K. Mahapatra, in the office of the municipal council here on Tuesday.

YAMUNANAGAR

Missing boys return
Two boys, Vishal (14) and Vikas (5), sons of Mr Joginder Pal, a resident of Railway Colony, who had been missing since Tuesday returned home the next day. The children had gone to a neighbour's house to exchange fruit and from there they reportedly went to Hardwar without informing anyone and came back around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police parties had been sent in different directions to search the missing boys.

Recruitment rally
A recruitment rally will be organised by the IAF here on September 2 and 3. Selection test for technical and non-technical trades will be held during the rally and the successful candidates will be examined medically.

KASAULI

Bus service
The residents of Barog have demanded action against the driver of Sultanpur-Kalka bus belonging to the Nalagarh depot for not plying the bus on the sanctioned route.The bus is the only means to transport farm produce to Kalka and other vegetable markets. The residents have urged the government to restore the bus service to the sanctioned route up to Sultanpur.
Road development
After hearing to the grievances of the residents of more than 26 villages in Goela the State PWD Minister, Mr Mohinder Singh, announced a grant of 1.5 lakh for the construction of Panchayat Bhavan at Goela. He also announced metalling of roads from Goela to Patta, Chaichi and Chandi and assured completion of the Bhat ki Hatti-Kuthar road within four months.

Demand
The residents of Patta-Mahlog Panchayat have urged the state government to repair the Patta-Parwanoo link road which had been damaged badly in the recent rains.
