Chandigarh, November 7
The Punjab Police today arrested Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh, alias Mintoo, and his aide Gurpreet Singh Gopi from the Delhi airport.

After their arrest, the Punjab Police disclosed that after five years of power struggle, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan managed to bring Sikh terror outfits together. The ISI was holding weekly coordination meetings with them.

The police said most of the high-profile terrorists, who were lying low in Pakistan, have now become active and were visiting their sympathisers in Canada, Malaysia, the UK and Thailand.

The police said the Sikh terror outfits were asked to share logistics and target leaders of different communities in Punjab, besides dera heads to disturb communal harmony in the state. Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Saini told mediapersons this evening that Harminder Singh Mintoo and his key operative Gurpreet Singh Gopi were arrested from the Delhi airport this morning.

The KLF chief is wanted in 10 terror-related cases. Gopi was assigned the task to execute a conspiracy to assassinate Hindu leaders in 2013, which was foiled by the police. The Punjab Police traced the duo to Thailand with the help of central agencies. The DGP said the arrest was part of the series to track and nab top terrorists after the ISI asked them to spread wings in other parts of the country.

KLF chief Mintoo is second head of a terror organisation arrested within a few weeks.

Beant Singh’s assassin still at large

The Punjab Police are claiming big success with the arrest of three top terrorists from Thailand and Malaysia, but have failed to nab Jagtar Singh Tara, accused in the Beant Singh assassination case. Tara escaped from Burail Jail in 2004. Sources said the operation was planned to nab Tara, but the police missed him by a whisker.
