Chandigarh, November 6
Punjab Police today announced the arrest of the alleged high-profile terrorist, Ramandeep Singh, alias Goldy, from Chennai Airport immediately after he was brought there from Malaysia. He was first spotted in Thailand.

Khalistan Tiger Force terrorist Goldy was wanted for the July 2009 killing of Rulda Singh, president Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, an outfit of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and for twin blasts in Patiala and Ambala in August 2010. News reports from Thailand earlier this month said a team of the Indian police was looking for the dreaded terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara, a convict in the late CM Beant Singh assassination case. He had escaped from Burail jail in 2004. It later turned out that it was a Punjab police team and was looking for Goldy. Rulda Singh was president of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat when he was killed. He was an influential figure during the dark days of terrorism. He spent time with Sikh seminary at Chowk Mehta, including militant leaders. Later, he played a major role in pruning the blacklist of the Sikhs, who were banned from entering into the country due to links with terrorism.

He was very close to ex-BJP president L K Advani and often visited foreign countries to propagate the ideology of the party. Goldy is the second prize catch for the Punjab police within a month.

Earlier, it had arrested Rattandeep, who was wanted for his involvement in terror strikes for over 15 years. The arrest of Goldy is learnt to have been made on the leads established due to the questioning of Rattandeep. Gaurav Yadav , IG, Counter Intelligence, said the arrest may lead to further success against anti-national elements. A court in Patiala had remanded him to police custody till November 14. He said Goldy was a close aide of fugitive terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara.

The Punjab DGP has awarded the “Director General’s Commendation Disc” to Rajinder Singh Sohal, DSP/Rajpura, Tejinderjit Singh Virk, DSP/CI/Operations, and Inspector Mandeep Singh, Counter Intelligence. Two Head Constables, members of the team, have been promoted to the rank of the ASI.

Giving further details, a police spokesperson said the two-member police team comprising DSP Rajpura Rajinder Singh Sohal and Counter Intelligence wing Inspector Mandeep Singh traced Goldy to Thailand initially. They camped there for three weeks in September-October but Goldy slipped to Malaysia where other policemen from Punjab joined the search.

The spokesperson said Goldy was a resident of Ward No. 10, Mohalla Singhpura, Bassi Pathana. He did his B.Ed. from Sudhar College, Ludhiana. Later, he came into contact with Babbar Khalsa International’s Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma. Pamma hatched the conspiracy which was carried out by Goldy and his associates Gursharan Singh and Piara Singh.
