New Delhi, November 3
Delhi is likely to witness a fresh electoral battle after the BJP, Congress and AAP on Monday told Lt Governor Najeeb Jung that no party was in a position to form the government. Jung is expected to send a recommendation to the President for dissolving the Assembly soon.

After the meeting, the Lt Governor said all parties were in favour of fresh polls in Delhi. A statement issued by the LG office said, "In the meeting with the Lt Governor, all parties expressed their inability to form the government. The Lt Governor would be sending his report to the President".

While the BJP declined the LG's offer to form a government, the AAP and the Congress made it clear that they were in favour of immediate elections. Satish Upadhyay and Jagdish Mukhi of the BJP, Haroon Yusuf of the Congress and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia met the Lt Governor.

Sources in the government said the Union Cabinet was expected to meet soon to recommend fresh elections after dissolution of the Assembly. The next meeting of the Union Cabinet is scheduled for Wednesday.

The LG held consultations in the wake of the Supreme Court putting the issue on the fast track and giving the Centre time till November 11 to explore the possibility of forming a government.

The court was hearing AAP's petition seeking early dissolution of the Assembly which has been under suspended animation since February after the fall of the AAP government.

Delhi BJP chief Upadhyay and senior leader Mukhi informed the LG that the party did not have the numbers to form the government in Delhi. "The BJP's stand on government formation in Delhi has been very clear since 8 December 2013 that BJP will never indulge in horse trading to form government," said Upadhyay.

Sources said the party's Central leadership had strongly favoured fresh polls rather than trying to cobble up numbers to form the government in Delhi during a meeting on Sunday. The AAP and Congress leaders also expressed inability to form the government again and said they preferred fresh elections.
