New Delhi, October 25
Fresh clashes erupted in east Delhi's Trilokpuri locality today following which prohibitory orders were imposed. The situation remained tense in the area for the third consecutive day in the wake of a clash between two groups on Diwali night.

More than 70 miscreants have been arrested and combing operations are on.

The general public has been told to refrain from visiting the area.

As many as 35 persons, including 13 policemen, have been injured in the clashes. The police said as many as eight incidents of stone pelting were witnessed at Trilokpuri on Saturday. Vehicles belonging to locals and policemen have also been vandalised.

Five persons have suffered gunshot wounds. While locals claimed the bullets were fired by the police, senior officials said the shots were fired by miscreants.

" We are trying to identify people who have opened fire. While 10 persons were arrested yesterday, 60 were nabbed today for rioting in the area. The situation remains tense but is under control," said a police official.

Senior police officials are camping in the area. Over 30 police vans, water cannons and riot control vehicles have been stationed in the area.

A clash had occurred between two communities on Thursday over rituals of the Diwali festival. Things were brought under control by the police but clashes broke out again on Friday night after which police used tear gas shells and resorted to mild force to control the situation.
