Chandigarh, October 19
Manohar Lal Khattar could be the next Chief Minister of Haryana. Khattar, who won from the Karnal Assembly segment, is said to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prior to the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting, Haryana BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma's name was also being considered for the top post, but sources said the party leadership chose Khattar.

Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah met after the Parliamentary Board meeting and it is believed that they have agreed on Khattar's name. The party has appointed Venkaiah Naidu and Dinesh Sharma as party observers. They will seek BJP MLAs’ opinion and get their signatures for approving Khattar's name.

The BJP has also appointed JP Nadda and Rajnath Singh as party observers for Maharashtra. The two leaders will leave for Mumbai tomorrow.
