New Delhi, October 4
The CBI today moved the Delhi High Court for immediate cancellation of bail to former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala for allegedly violating the bail conditions by participating in election rallies.

The court had yesterday issued a notice to the CBI on a Gurgaon resident's petition seeking cancellation of Chautala's bail on the ground that he would "misuse the grace period of 17 days given to him to surrender" by taking part in election campaigns.

Chautala, sentenced to 10-year jail in a teachers' recruitment scam, was granted bail on medical grounds on May 21, 2013, and since then he has been out on extension of his bail. On October 1, the Delhi High Court had sought CBI’s response by October 10 on the plea for directions to the politician to immediately surrender.

While issuing the notice to the CBI and Chautala, the court had questioned, "Why has the CBI not taken note of all this (election campaign)? The CBI does not seem to be aggrieved by this."

The INLD chief's campaign trail in Haryana has left the Opposition fuming. The BJP has said it would bring the matter to the notice of the Election Commission.

Among the others convicted in the case, 44 were sentenced to four years in jail while one was handed a five-year prison term. All of them were found guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents and conspiracy under the IPC and of abusing their official position under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
