SC returns Dadri land to farmers, convicts UP govt of misusing land acquisition power New Delhi, Sep 16 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday returned the Dadri land to the farmers, which was taken by the UP government citing public purpose, but was given to Reliance for personal use. The court also convicted the UP government of misusing the land acquisition power in the process. The lawyer in the case said that the SC has stamped on the order and that 1066 farmers affected by the same are happy by the judgement.
J and K Floods: Omar visits flood-hit Poonch, assures assistance Poonch/Ramban/ Kishtwar, Sept 16 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, visited flood-hit Poonch district and assured people that the government is trying to reach out to all flood victims. The authorities have also opened the route connecting Jammu city with the valley, via Kishtwar to Srinagar. Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Shant Manu, who did the aerial survey of the area, said the route will be initially opened solely for the vehicles carrying essential commodities and light vehicles. Meanwhile, the army in Ramban district has built a footbridge for the easy passage of flood-stricken people.
Train carrying around 260 Kashmir flood survivors arrives in New Delhi New Delhi, Sept 16 (ANI): A train carrying around 260 Kashmir flood survivors arrived in New Delhi more than a week after the worst deluge hit the heavily militarized and disputed region in 50 years. Most of the flood survivors were daily wage workers from Bihar and Jharkhand. A Kashmir flood survivor, Ram, praised the government and the army for massive relief and rescue operations. However, some people showed anger that relief efforts reached them much later after the floods had devastated everything.
Backlogs regarding development of northeast will be cleared: VK Singh New Delhi, Sept 16 (ANI): Minister for Development of Northeast Region, General Vijay Kumar Singh, said that development of the northeast region was a concern. Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, General Singh said development takes time and his ministry was reviewing the development projects operational in the region. The ministry is planning to establish national skill development council and calling in experts to provide skill development in northeast. Meanwhile, the minister said the Northeast Councils (NECs) could play a vital role in pushing the developmental model.
