The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today declared its first list of 62 candidates giving representation to youth, women, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes (BCs). The list, which has the 'blessings' of convicted INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala and released by state INLD president Ashok Arora and senior leader Abhey Chautala here today, contains the names of 15 sitting MLAs while three MLAs has been dropped.

Ruckus in Parliament over UPSC exam row

Amid speculations that the Verma committee report could be against the wishes of the agitating UPSC aspirants, the Civil Services Aptitude Test (C-SAT) row again rocked both Houses of Parliament. Assurances by ministers of the NDA government that the matter would be soon resolved could not buy peace as some parties threatened to intensify their protest.

India’s demands block $1 trillion WTO deal on customs rules
Geneva, August 1
The World Trade Organisation failed on Thursday to reach a deal to standardise customs rules, which would have been the first global trade reform in two decades but was blocked by India's demands for concessions on agricultural stockpiling. "We have not been able to find a solution that would allow us to bridge that gap," WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo told trade diplomats in Geneva just two hours before the final deadline for a deal.

China violated border pact on June 2: Jaitley
New Delhi, August 1
Just a week after the new government took over on May 26, China violated the border pact it had signed with India. The violation of the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA) took place on June 2 in southeastern Ladakh.
