LoC calm a must for talks: India

Pakistani troops today violated ceasefire by targeting Indian posts along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif promising to work with the latter in an atmosphere "free from confrontation and violence" to chart a new course in bilateral ties. This is the first major ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops since the new government assumed office in Delhi last month.

CBI books 6 sitting, ex-Rajya Sabha MPs
New Delhi, June 13
The CBI has registered cases against six sitting and former members of the Rajya Sabha in connection with the LTC scam in which travel reimbursement was allegedly claimed by them through purportedly forged bills.  Sources in the CBI said three sitting MPs — D Bandopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress, Brajesh Pathak of the BSP and Lalhming Liana of the Mizo National Front — have been named along with some travel agents in the cases filed.

In a major bonanza for the salaried class, the government is likely to raise the income tax exemption limit from the current Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh in the Union Budget in July. The hike in income tax exemption limit will be a big relief for the salaried class. Under the current slabs, no tax is charged on income up to Rs 2 lakh which will go up to Rs 5 lakh.

17 nations to accept Indian engg degrees

Indian students with accredited technical education degrees will now find it easy to get academic recognition and jobs in 17 major nations across the world, including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and Russia. After years of struggle, India today gained the status of permanent signatory to the Washington Accord (WA), a global agreement that covers mutual recognition in respect of tertiary-level engineering qualifications among the signatory countries.

BMC to begin Campa Cola flats’ demolition from June 17
Mumbai, June 13
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will begin demolishing the illegal flats at Campa Cola Compound from June 17 after a deadline set by the Supreme Court for its inhabitants to vacate the premises expired on Thursday.
