One minister may head a cluster of ministries
New Delhi, May 25
While there is still no official confirmation on the size and constituents of Narendra Modi’s Council of Ministers, it is now certain that big changes can be expected in the government contours and functioning beginning with downsising. A statement issued by the Prime Minister-elect’s secretariat from Gujarat Bhawan said one minister will head a cluster of ministries in complimentary sectors.

Sharif not to meet Kashmiri separatists
Srinagar, May 25
In an unusual break from the tradition, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will skip any meeting with Kashmiri separatists during his visit to the country tomorrow. Sharif, who will visit New Delhi to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Indian Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi, has not invited any Kashmiri separatist for a meeting, which is rare in recent decades.

Fate of Governors hangs in balance

Fate of more than 10 state Governors, including Karnataka’s HR Bhardwaj and Punjab’s Shivraj V Patil, appointed by the outgoing UPA government hangs in balance with indications that the new dispensation may politely ask them to vacate the Raj Bhawans.

Drizzle brings respite from heat in North

Drizzle accompanied by strong winds lashed the northern region bringing down the day’s temperature today. While the maximum temperature hovered around 42 °C in the region, the evening temperature fell by five degrees. The minimum temperature in the plains stayed around 28 °C.

Black money cases SIT to be notified by next week New Delhi, May 25 The government is expected to bring out a notification by next week for creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that will have “jurisdiction over all cases” of unaccounted funds or black money stashed by Indians abroad. The SIT will be headed by former Supreme Court judge MB Shah with Justice Arijit Pasayat (retd) being the vice-chairman.
