Water crisis hits Almora, Champawat
districts
Pithoragarh, May 10 “Over 42 villages of Almora district are getting drinking water by tankers once in three days as natural sources feeding these villages have started drying,” said Pitamber Pandey, a local social worker at Maulekhal. The villagers have complained that the water being supplied to villagers is not sufficient for three days. Villagers of Aara and Salpad in Danya block of Almora district have complained that they have started facing drinking water crisis as Bhaurigad -Salpad drinking water project, which supplied water to their villages, has remain damaged for long. “We have demanded repair of the project,” said Ganesh Dutt, a villager from Salpad village. The Dhurafat and Galai village groups of Bageshwar district are facing acute drinking water crisis as the drinking water project constructed for these villages has not been repaired after it was damaged in last year’s disaster. “The villagers are carrying drinking water from distant places as wells have almost gone dry,'' said NS Rawat, convener of Indian Human Rights Association. In Lohaghat and Champawat towns of Champawat district the villagers have started facing water crisis as natural water sources feeding these towns have started generating less water due to summer months. “Jal Sansthan officials have started distributing drinking water by tankers. Electricity supply to the town is also blocked for next three days,” said CS Basnet, a jal sansthan officer at Lohaghat. |

Mother's Day celebrated with enthusiasm
Dehradun, May 10 The members of the Management Committee graced the occasion. Sardar Iqbal Singh, chairman of the school, congratulated all the mothers. This was stated by Director of Sanskriti Play School Divya Panjwani at a special function organised on the occasion of Mother's Day,which entered its 100th year of celebration. Panjwani said that Mother's Day has been regularly celebrated across the globe since 1914, as a mark to pay tribute to mothers and their contribution to the humanity. Socialite Biwinder Sodhi said that mother is the one who gives immeasurable love and mother-child relation is a unique one. On the occasion mothers of all the students who are studying in Sanskriti School were invited to school and various events were held specially for them.Welcoming mothers ,function coordionator Seema Dayani told them about the importance of a mother in child's life. Dayani added that mother is a person “who stands by us through thick and thin.”

Haridwar, May 10 Vidhya Gautam, a Dalit leader, is on an indefinite fast in support of her demand for Ramdev's arrest for his derogatory remarks that have hurt her
sentiments. Vidhya, president of the Vishwa Dalit Parishad, is on a fast at Shri Kabir Parama Hans Mangnand Ashram,
Rishikul, since May 4. Her health is deteriorating day by day as the temperature has touched 38°C. Such is her determination that she sent back the Sub-Divisional Magistrate,
Haridwar, who had come to convince her to break her fast. “I have not sat on fast to later give it up on a piece of advice or suggestion by someone. Pithoragarh, May 10 According to Tamta, the people have voted for development models of Congress Party in last 10 years of UPA government as the party had created historic facilities in the villages of the constituency. ''The people who have benefited out of MNREGA and PMGRY schemes have voted for the Congress candidates all over the country as these schemes, added with some other schemes, have reduced poverty and created facilities like road and health in the villages,” said Pradeep Tamta. Tamta claimed that though his party was in a neck-and-neck fight in urban areas, the rural voters are totally with the Congress.. BJP leaders, on other hand, have claimed that the vote was for change and people have voted to oust the ''corrupt Congress government and make Modi the next prime minister of India.'' PCS officer held for ‘exploiting’ woman
Pithoragarh, May 10 The police said the officer was arrested after the victim lodged a complaint against him in January this year. She alleged that they had a son out of their relationship. She came in contact with Vivek Swaroop when she was working as a contractual worker in the Rudrapur Mandi Parishad. “The woman has alleged besides getting her job regularised, the officer also promised to marry her,” said Kuldip Singh Aswal, investigating officer. He said the officer had also made an objectionable clipping of her and tried to blackmail her. “When the officer refused to marry her she lodged a complaint with the police in January. After a probe, the police arrested the officer today,” said Aswal. |

Dehradun, May 10 It may be mentioned that in the Bageshwar district 241 works around Rs 15 crore, in Champwawat district 226 plans around Rs 7.50 crore, in Haridwar district 155 works around Rs 15 crore, in Pauri Garhwal 678 works around Rs 7.50 crore, in Uttarkashi 511 works around Rs 5 crore, in Udham Singh Nagar 83 works around Rs 7.50 crore, in Dehradun 133 works around Rs 7.50 crore, in Almora 184 works around Rs 7.50 crore, in Pithoragarh 335 works around Rs 5 crore, in Chamoli, 129 works around Rs 15 crore, in Rudraprayag 145 works around Rs 5 crore and in Nainital 100 works around Rs 7.50 crore are in different phases of completion. "The projects should be completed before June 30 and the monitoring committees have been tasked to ensure standards are maintained at all cost," said the Chief Secretary.
