Baramulla, May 8
Angry youths, who boycotted the Lok Sabha poll, were today seen thrashing and humiliating those who cast their votes in Baramulla and Sopore towns yesterday.

Groups of youths had started stopping passenger vehicles in Baramulla since morning. They checked fingers of travellers to find out those who had voted yesterday. People whose finger were found inked were severely thrashed, humiliated and had their clothes torn.

“Angry youths got into buses near Cement Bridge and Azad Gunj in Baramulla and checked fingers of all passengers. Several passengers were thrashed after their fingers were found inked,” an eyewitness said.

The youths were furious over the increased voter turnout, particularly in Kupwara and Handwara areas.

One of the youths who thrashed a voter travelling in a bus said the “traitors” would be taught a lesson. “Our brothers have been killed in cold blood and you have voted for killers,” a masked youth yelled while thrashing a passenger as his wife sitting next to him kept crying.

Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Suhail Munawar said the miscreants were later chased away by the police.

Similar incidents were also reported from Sopore.
