IPL Spot-fixing case: Gavaskar to replace Srinivasan
New Delhi, March 28 (ANI): The Supreme Court today said Sunil Gavaskar
would replace N Srinivasan to take up the post of interim president of the
BCCI. The
court gave three interim orders to the BCCI -- Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings
would not take part in the IPL-7, Gavaskar to replace Srinivasan, and all
India Cements employees be removed from the BCCI. One of the lawyers informed that it
was for Gavaskar to decide whether Sundar Raman would hold his post or not.
Militant arrest foils terror attack plan in UP
Lucknow, March 28 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested militants in Lucknow and revealed that the arrested militants had plans to target
crucial places. Inspector General of Police of Uttar Pradesh Amrender Singh
Senger said the arrested militants were planning to launch an attack using AK-47 and pistols
at a crucial location in the state. The IGP added that the captured
militants -- Abdul Waleed and Salim-- had been trained by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Police also
seized two AK-47 rifles, three pistols, SIM cards from India and Nepal, Indian identity cards and 900 US
Dollars.
India certified as polio-free by WHO
New Delhi, March 28 (ANI): The World Health Organisation
(WHO) declared India free of the crippling polio virus during a ceremony in New
Delhi. This has made country's almost two-decade long, multi-billion-dollar effort one of the biggest public health achievements in recent times. India's last case of the wild polio virus was detected in January, 2011, in a two-year-old girl in West Bengal. The
above said ceremony was organised here to give certificate to the
country for eradicating the disease. South-East Asia director of the WHO Poonam Khetrapal
Singh said the ceremony marked one of the biggest public health achievements in the world.
