Bathinda, March 19
The security of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has been tightened after Central intelligence agencies alerted the state police about the threat posed to him by a human bomb. IG, Special Protection Unit (CM Security), Punjab, had sent a note to some higher officials on March 17, 2014 indicating a “serious threat” to Sukhbir.

The note had warned that terrorists could use a human bomb, especially a woman suicide bomber, to target Sukhbir. Car bomb and other remote-control devices had also been mentioned.

Telling the police to tighten security, the note had recommended that a gazetted officer should check the places that the Deputy CM is supposed to visit. Some intelligence officials fear the VVIP could be targeted from a distance. Bathinda zone IG Paramjit Singh Umranangal said Sukhbir has been provided Z-plus security and all the security officers are posted according to the module. He said that he has not received any communication in this regard.
