Hooda govt rushes to clear Bills Chandigarh, March 4 Being the last Assembly session of the Hooda government before the elections, the government had lined up several Bills as part of its “sop opera” to beat anti-incumbency ahead of the Lok Sabha poll. There was hardly any discussion on most Bills. Only the Right to Service Bill and the Bill to regularise illegal colonies prompted some serious discussion in the House. During the discussion on the Right to Service Bill, INLD member Ashok Arora and Ram Pal Majra tried to put the Hooda government on the mat on its reported move to appoint retired IAS officers as the chairman and members of the commission. Congress member Sampat Singh also said the posts of the chairman and members should not restricted to retired bureaucrats. These should be open to other categories of government officials also, he added. The Haryana Management of Civic Amenities and Infrastructure Deficient Municipal Areas (Special Provisions) Amendment Bill, 2014, was the only other legislation that evoked discussion among members. The Bill aimed at pushing the cutoff date for regularising illegal colonies from June 30, 2009, to January 1, 2014. Lightning fast
