Rain, snow intensify cold wave, throw life out of gear
Dehradun, February 15 According to Director, Dehradun Meteorological Centre, Anand Sharma, while rain had lashed the entire state today, the weather was likely to improve from tomorrow. In capital Dehradun, rain that started yesterday continued throughout the day throwing normal life out of gear. It led to a
fall in the mercury levels leading to a cold wave. The roads gave a desolate look and most of the people preferred remaining indoors. By evening, Dehradun also experienced a sudden heavy hailstorm. The higher reaches of hill districts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri and Nainital received snowfall for the second consecutive day with the peaks remaining covered under sheets of snow around these places. Fresh snowfall blocked nearly half a dozen roads, including Joshimath-Auli and Mandal-Chopta routes in Chamoli district, and Rishikesh-Yamunotri and Rishikesh-Gangotri highways in Uttarkashi, affecting traffic. The minimum temperature in Dehradun recorded a drop of over one degree celsius today, the Met Department said. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius as against yesterday's 10.4 degrees Celsius, it said, adding that the temperature will drop further tomorrow when the weather is likely to clear up. |

Tallabagar residents seek development package
Pithoragarh, February 15 Being close to the Indo-Nepal border, the region remains cut off from other areas of the state. Educational and primary health facilities do no0t exist for the villagers in the region. "We have been compelled to travel 80 kms to avail the primary health facilities as the allopathic hospital opened in the area 22 years ago has no doctor," said Anand Singh Dhami, a Tallabagar resident . The residents regretted that their demand of upgrading the only high school in the region was not fulfilled by successive governments." We have been demanding to upgrade the only high school in the area to the intermediate level for long. The school serves to students from 30 villages of the area," said Dhami. The residents said though most of them are dependent on livestock to earn a living, the authorities had failed to open a veterinary hospital in the area. "If farmers will get better medical treatment for their animals, they would be able to produce enough milk to sustain their lives," said Harish Pal, a resident of Dyura village. "As the new CM knows the region well, he should release a development package for Tallabagar villages," said Pal. The residents also sought roads to link the area with Tanakpur to Tawaghat highway at Jauljibi besides an ITI to train the local youth. Fact file

Dehradun, February 15 While hinting at the possibility of rehabilitating van Gujjars on the land, Brig KG Behl (redt), president of the league, said," For a long time, efforts were being made by many people to grab the valuable land and when they did not succeed, they tried to hoodwink the authorities on the pretext of rehabilitating the poor so that they could grab the land from them thereafter." Behl said, "We would request the Governor to ask the state to place facts concerning the issue before him to set the things right. This injustice can't be tolerated and the matter will be taken at all levels to expose the authorities. We fail to understand how the State Sainik Punarwas Committee was easily swayed."Notably, in the Assembly on Wednesday, leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt had produced a government order that was signed by Additional Secretary Shailesh Baiguli recommending that formalities for the sale of land be initiated.
