SIT to probe ’84 riots: Delhi Govt

New Delhi, January 29
The Delhi Government on Wednesday announced the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the killing of Sikhs in the 1984 riots that were triggered by the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia said the government had given its in-principle approval to the SIT after discussing it with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

Uproar in Jagraon after girl’s kidnapping; seven booked

A girl belonging to a cloth merchants’ family was allegedly kidnapped from outside her house in Ram Nagar area of the town this morning. Seven persons have been booked in that connection. The miscreants, who came in a white car, allegedly pulled the girl into the vehicle and fled.

Narcotics bureau ill-equipped to tackle Punjab drug menace Chandigarh, January 29 In a startling revelation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it was ill-equipped to deal with drug menace in Punjab. Expressing “surprise” at the assertion, a Division Bench of the high court in response asked the Centre to spell out the steps it intended to initiate for strengthening the bureau.
