Yamunanagar, January 20
An altercation over a minor issue turned out to be a nightmare for Pooja (32) and her sister Rekha (27) as the former’s husband threw acid on them while they were on their way to an ashram in Jagadhri this morning.

Minor altercation
Pooja had an altercation with her husband Ashok after which she asked her sister Rekha to accompany her to a nearby ashram. As the two women were walking down the street, Ashok threw acid on them

Pooja and Rekha are married to two brothers, Ashok Kumar and Rajesh Kumar, respectively, and they live in a rented accommodation in the Railway Bazaar area.

The police said Pooja and Ashok had an altercation in the morning after which Pooja asked Rekha to accompany her to a nearby ashram. As the two women were walking down the street, Ashok Kumar came from behind and threw acid on them.

Both women suffered serious burns on their face, hands and upper body. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital from where they were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

A case has been registered against Ashok Kumar, a rickshaw-puller, but he is yet to be arrested. Sources said a team of officials had been sent to Chandigarh to record statements of the two women. Ashok is said to be an alcoholic.
