Dera Bassi:
Rs 15 cr for water supply scheme
Nearly Rs 15 crore has been spent on the water supply schemes in Dera Bassi to provide safe drinking water. This was stated by NK Sharma, chief parliamentary secretary, while inaugurating the water supply scheme at Mubarkpur worth Rs 75 lakh. He said these schemes would soon resolve the drinking water problem.

PGI doctor’s book awarded
'Fractures of the Calcaneus', a book authored by PGIMER Orthopedician Dr Mandeep Singh Dhillon' was awarded with the prestigious "Best Book of 2013 award." The award was announced at the recently concluded WIROC conference at Mumbai. Dr Dhillon is president of Indian Foot and Ankle Society, Editor Asia Pacific Journal Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Robolazr Cataract Surgery introduced: Grewal Eye Institute (GEI), Sector 9, has introduced the first of its kind Robolazr Cataract Surgery. Robolazr is a blade-free laser procedure which has brought in a paradigm shift in cataract surgery worldwide and delivers better results for the cataract patients. In traditional cataract surgery, handheld blades were used to make incisions. “With Robolazr the surgeon can now make the corneal incisions and the capsulotomy with unprecedented precision and accuracy up to one micron level which is impossible to achieve with the handheld technique,” said Dr Dilraj, a guest faculty at the Grewal Institute, (a US-based doctor of Indian origin, who created the training module for Robolazr procedure).

CISF cop held for rape:
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel was today arrested for allegedly raping a girl from Bhaderwah. Station House Officer of the Bhaderwah police station Gurmeet Singh said the accused was arrested from his house today. He said the CISF personnel had been absconding for over a year. The accused is posted in Jharkhand and had returned home on leave when he was arrested.

State withdraws mandi tax:
To check the rising prices of vegetables and fruits, the state has withdrawn mandi tax of two and a half per cent with immediate effect. At a meeting held here on Monday, Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat said mandi tax on vegetables and fruits had been withdrawn in the state. He expressed hope that it would help cut the prices of vegetables and fruits.

Bank duped of lakhs: Two persons allegedly duped Central Bank’s Ballupur road branch of few lakhs of rupees after they took loan by submitting forged documents. Amit Kumar and Ranbir Singh applied for loan and were given the sanctioned loan amount on the basis of the documents submitted by them. The police have registered a case against them.

ADM's wife killed
: The wife of Pithoragarh Additional District Magistrate BL Rana was killed while he and their two children sustained serious injuries when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the Almora-Haldwani road on Monday. The family was on its way to home in Uttarkashi from Haldwani. The injured had been admitted to a Haldwani hospital, said Anand Sriwastava, Chief Development Officer, Pithoragarh district.
