Two-day ICAI conclave begins: The Chandigarh branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) started a two-day conclave — ‘Vishwas 2013’, — here
today. The event has been organised to enrich professionals and through them the public at large on various changes in the laws and its implementation and interpretation.
Auxiliary nurses get
training: The first batch of the three-day training for ANMs on HIV/AIDS and ART” under the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) in association with the Indian Nursing Council was organised under the guidance of Sandhya Ghai, Principal, and Avinash Kaur Rana, Principal Coordinator. The training was completed at the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh, from December 16 to 18. A total of 24 nurses from Punjab and Chandigarh participated in the
event.
Dental treatments
discussed: 'From guessing dentistry to precision
dentistry, the magnification technology had changed the way dental treatments were done. The dental ergonomics had revolutionised dental treatments making it easier to view the oral cavity unlike the earlier days, said chief managing director, The Dental Arcade, Dr Vijita Mehta, MDS, Endodontist. “Magnification allows the dentist to have a better view of patient’s oral cavity and an easy access which in a way improves the overall result of the treatment by limiting the trauma and increasing the precision,” she added. Showing hands-on live demonstration with a reporter in the dental chair, Dr Vijita went through the “patient’s” jaw and teeth, magnified live on the screen at The Dental Arcade.
Three held for illegal sale of kerosene: The Food and Supplies Department today arrested three persons for illegally selling kerosene in
Manimajra. At least 1,800 litres of kerosene was seized while the commodity was being sold to consumers. The commodity was brought from Haryana. The three accused were handed over to the police and a case has been registered under the essential commodities Act.

Teenage girl jumps into Dal Lake, rescued: A 17-year-old girl, who allegedly jumped into Dal Lake, was rescued by the police here on Thursday. The police said they were investigating as to why the girl, hailing from north Kashmir’s Tangmarg locality, tried to end her life. “The girl jumped into the lake near Makyie point Cheshmashahi. She was rescued due to timely action of police,” a police spokesman said. Red Cross distributes relief material: The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, distributed relief material among the families, whose houses were devastated in various fire incidents recently at Koolipora, Khanyar, Grattabal and Nawa-Kadal in
Srinagar. Besides blankets, clothes, torches and slippers, cash assistance was also provided to the victims. The distribution of relief material was carried out by the officers of the Red Cross.

Qureshi for expansion of medical facility: Padma Shri Mohan Chandra Pant, newly appointed VC of Hemawati Nandan Bahugun Medical University, called on Governor Aziz Qureshi on Thursday. Qureshi expressed hope that necessary resources would be gathered to improve medical and health services in the state. He said focus would be to provide and expand medical facilities in rural areas.
