200 jhuggis burnt in Ghazipur fire
New Delhi, November 11 The incident was reported at around 5.35 pm. A fire officer added that it was brought under control by 27 fire tenders and some water tankers in around two hours. "Flammable items like wood, clothes and plastic were stored in the area which made the blaze difficult to contain," the officer said. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, the fire department suspects that it may have begun due to a shortcircuit. As the fire started, the residents of the jhuggis fled to save their lives, but they lost their clothes, money, food and furniture in the fire. Temporary camps have been set up in the area for the locals. "We are providing food, medicines and other facilities as the entire jhuggi cluster has been gutted," the officer added. Similar fires have been reported thrice in the area in the past. While 500 dwellings were gutted in January 2012, 100 dwellings were destroyed in 2010. |
BJP kicks off 3-D video rath to woo voters
New Delhi, November 11 "The rath was fabricated by a Gujarat-based commercial agency. The technology has been imported from abroad. Earlier, it was used in the assembly elections in Gujarat. Now it is being used in Delhi, said Ashish Sood, campaign committee convenor of the party. The rath has speeches of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan, the leader of the opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel. To operate the rath, a team 15 persons have been brought from Gujarat. The rath will be stopped at important places in each constituency where visuals of speeches of Modi, Vardhan and other leaders will be showed. This is an easy way to spread the leaders' messages. The latest technology will help the party campaign better, Sood said. Sunny Bhatt, one of the team members from Gujarat, said, "We do not know the local leaders. We just have videos of their speeches to show them at important points. A complete team has come from Gujarat to manage the rath." Goel said, "The villages of Delhi are still being governed by laws made more than a hundred years ago. The Congress government has done nothing except paying lip service. The villagers are still struggling to get civic amenities like schools, hospitals, railway reservation counters, water and power, road transport and even toilets." Goel promised all-round development of the villages if the BJP is voted to power. |
