Bring immediate stay order on Gauhati HC ruling: Former CBI Director
New Delhi, November 08 (ANI): Talking about the Gauhati High Court ruling,
former CBI Director Joginder Singh said the government should bring immediate stay on the order to escape embarrassment in front of visiting foreign delegates. Gauhati High Court
had passed an order that said the Central Bureau of Investigation was 'unconstitutional' and
did not have powers to investigate crimes. Singh also said the CBI had no right under the law, but the final ruling
would be of the Supreme Court which had assigned the agency some major scam cases in the past.
Opinion polls are ‘absolute trash’: Digvijay Singh
New Delhi, November 8 (ANI): Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh
today termed the opinion polls as ‘absolute trash’. Dismissing reports that market
investers were in favour of Narendra Modi for the post of Prime Minister, he said
the people of the country would select their Prime Minister, not the
investers.
Jayalalitha declares world chess championship open
Chennai, November 08 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha declared the
World Chess Championship open. India's defending world champion Vishwanathan Anand would take on the Norwegian Challenger Magnus
Carlsen from tomorrow. The 12-match series was being organized by the world chess
federation FIDE. Jayalalitha said an amount of 29 crore rupees had been allotted for the championship. The 43-year-old Indian chess
ace Anand, had been world champion since 2007. 24-year-old Carlsen, on
the other hand, was the youngest player to top the world rankings, when he was just 19.
