The lack of proper playgrounds and negligent driving claimed the lives of two children in separate incidents in the Daba area here since yesterday. Both children were playing in the streets when they were crushed to death under vehicles. The children belonged to families of labourers.

42 more test positive for dengue
Ludhiana, October 27
Forty-two new cases of dengue were diagnosed here today. Of them, 32 patients, 24 from the city and eight from the periphery, are from Ludhiana district. The patients belong to Salim Tabri, Field Gunj, Shiv Puri, Dana Mandi, BRS Nagar, Giaspura, Mayapuri, Jagraon, Jodhewal Samrala, Dhandari, Sherpur, Saheed Karnail Singh Nagar, Sunder Nagar, Janta Nagar, Tibba Road, Mundian, Dhandari, Sherpur, Jogiana, Dugri, Model Town and Sunet.

Dengue is taking toll on the industry too. With the fear of the disease lurking large, workers have started leaving the city while those who have contracted the disease are going back home for recovery. This year, dengue has spread badly and affected a large number of people.

3 held for running illegal LPG business
Ludhiana, October 27
The city police has arrested three persons for allegedly running an illegal business of LPG and has seized 37 gas cylinders and other equipment from their possession. The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of New Shakti Nagar, Parveen Kumar, a resident of Noorwala Road, and Radhe Krishan Gupta, a resident of Noorwala Road.

The police has booked a Chennai resident for defrauding a city resident of $ 11,614.40 by hacking his e-mail ID. The accused has been identified as B Mohammad Irfan, a resident of Sudarshan Nagar in Chennai. The amount in Indian currency is around Rs 7 lakh.
